Traffic to home and fashion community websites grew in April as the spring season prompted consumers to seek advice on home improvement and fashion trends, while photo sharing sites registered a boost in activity driven by seasonal events, such as proms and religious holidays, according to comScore Media Metrix.

Community—Home was the top-gaining category in April, attracting 48 million unique visitors, up 10% from the previous month. Among the top properties in the category were eHow Home and Garden (up 4%), iVillage Home and Garden (up 24%), and About Home and Garden (up 11%). Home Depot, a retail site in the Home Furnishings subcategory, was a top-gaining property during the month, growing 12% to 12.6 million visitors.

Community—Beauty/Fashion/Style websites attracted 47.5 million unique visitors during the month, up 8% from March. Among the top properties in the category were Glam Style, Stylelist Sites (up 7%), and Hearst Beauty & Fashion Network (up 37%). Allure was one of the category's big winners, attracting 717,000 visitors during the month, a 214% surge.

Services—Photos websites were visited by over one-half of US Internets users in April, attracting 112.7 million visitors, up of 3% from the previous month. Among the most visited sites in the category were Facebook Photos (up 8%), Photobucket, and Flickr (up 4%). ImageShack recorded a sizeable increase in April, growing 59% to 2.3 million visitors.

Hispanic Focus Category

April marked the introduction of the new Hispanic Focus category in Media Metrix, which measures the entire US audience at sites and other ad-supported entities oriented toward the US Hispanic audience.

Univision was the top publishing site in the category, with 4.6 million visitors, followed by Terra-Telefonica with 3.4 million, MSN Latino with 2.6 million, and Batanga with 2.4 million.
