Horizontal Menu Or Vertical?

I'm developing a site for a company where we expect to have reservations of hotels and packages, we are going we want to include information of the destiny, like destinations (the different cities), Car rental, Real State, Villas, Restaurants, Shopping, Activities, How to get here, and of course all the packages we have, the question is, is better an horizontal drop down menu or a vertical static menu? does it will affect the user if he has to scroll down less than a page to access in a vertical menu? also how can i be sure that my potential customers understand the site is for make reservations and not information about my destination??

    I think a vertical left nav is pretty standard. Take a look at what your competitors are doing, like www.aaa.com. Or you can have main headings that drill down to more detail when you rollover them. You can have a main link for "Make Reservations".

    rhorowitz, judy and vevolution thank you for your answers, i have been looking some related sites and they handle some kind of division where they use both in all their pages, i mean some links in hor and some in vert i don't know if that's good, in personal i don't think so, i agree with vevolution i want the same kind of menu for all the pages because i guess i easiest for the user to remember where the things was, also some travel websites includes boxes with date arrival and price range and chec availability in an hor bar, is that also a good practice for navigation? thank you for all your answers =)

    I think your last question is taking you out of the game. If you want to be the "reservation website" but not the destination info site, you'll lose before you start.

    Better to have the best destination information and then, when you visitors are excited about going, you present the reservation capability.
