Pet Sitting Service Tag Line Needed
Posted By: homesteadpets* on 6/12/2006 7:13 PM (CST) 250 Points
I am starting an in-home pet sitting personal service business. An important feature of pet sitting is that the pet is able to be cared for while remaining in the safety and comfort of home when the owner cannot be there to care for the pet. Staying home causes less stress for the animal and creates a happier home environment for the family -pet included- . The name of the business is [name deleted by staff]. I want a slogan hat will instill a sense of trust most importantly, but I also want to project a sense of fun. The logo will show a dog jumping for a frisbee -the logo is still in the making, and I am rethinking my original slogan of 'the way to Go!' because I am unsure people 'get it'. Although I do have a few fans who love it.
A little more about the business.. it is a service in which I will go to the home to take care of pets including cats, dogs, birds, small caged animals, fish and reptiles. Also dog walking, pet taxi, pet related errands and house sitting included.

We currently use a pet-sitting service that goes by the name "CreatureComforts".

So, your name of "Homestead Pets" is equally fine and somewhat implies what you do as a service without any further tag lines, but.......

The "hominess" is equally important for both the pet as well as the pet owner. So, a tagline that provides benefit to the animal and the owner is good.

"[Name deleted by staff].....caring for your loved ones in your house...safe & secure"

"[Name deleted by staff]....Your pets are our family too....Invite us in.

"[Name deleted by staff]....Providing care for your loved ones at home"

Homestead pets.....Food, walks, love, security and.....FUN.

You have 2 alternatives when selecting a tag line:
- something "catchy"
- something that reinforces your differentiating characteristics and strengthens your brand. (If I get a vote it goes for this type, but it's your call.)

If you want the 1st type, look for something that rolls off the tongue, has a rhyme and/or double meaning and is easy to remember. Conduct a brainstorming session for 15-30 minutes (or until new ideas dry up) and capture every idea - the good, the bad and the ugly. Your goal should be to get as many ideas without evaluating or filtering any. When you're finished, put the list away until the next day - then select the good ideas and any promising ideas that you can build upon. (Feel free to laugh as you discard the bad and the ugly!)

If you want the 2nd type, you first have to:
- define your differentiating characteristics. What makes you different from other similar businesses and why should people use you instead of your competition?
- define your target customers (buyers and sellers) in as much detail as possible. What are their: ages, income level, marital status, sex, educational level...?
-define what you want your brand to represent. In the future after your brand is established, when someone hears your company name what do you want them to think of? With this information, conduct a brainstorming session as described above.

Having said that, how about;
- We Love Your Pets
- Fun For Fido
- Home Alone? Not When We're Around!

It's great getting fresh ideas after feeling I have run out of them! Most of these are original, I really like a few of them!!
Adding 'guaranteed' to it is a neat idea too! I see a few of those where that would work.
Thanks for helping me out!

BARQ posted some excellent options. I'd like to comment on the logo though. Why a dog jumping for a frisbee? That to me invokes that you are not a pet-sitting service, but a manufacturer of products.

On the trust factor that is something earned and is difficult to convey in a slogan and/or logo, but if you must tie it to your company name, to me a circular logo shows no gaps or breaks and that is trustworthy to me.

One last thought - homestead evokes a farm or ranch or mid-western images. At least to today's younger generation - I don't know anyone that uses the term homestead that is under 40. And I would imagine that most of your clients are weekenders or the younger set that needs to get away for a few days.

I've been in the pet industry for 2+ years so seeing catchy slogans that actually invoke what the company or service is are far and few.

People love their pets. No matter the animal, bird, dog, cat, fish, reptile etc...people love them, kiss them, bath them, feed them and are attached to them. And for some, their animal is their best friend...

Draw their feelings out to gain their trust...People trust mostly based on feelings and then later will justify it with fact. That's why so many people are conned.

Just as in sales, people buy on emotion and justify with facts. So draw out their own emotions.

So here's a thought.

[Name deleted by staff] - The Next Best Thing To You.

[Name deleted by staff] - Like You're Still Home

[Name deleted by staff] - It's like you never left

[Name delted by staff] - Pet Parents That Care

[Name deleted by staff] - Because You Care

Any of the ideas posted in this forum are good...Remember draw out the emotion and let the customer come to their own conclusion.

PAW, That's the best feedback I've received on the logo and you haven't even seen it -thankyou so much!..I'm going to try to answer some of your questions.

About the frisbee dog, - there is no actual frisbee in the pic, it's sort-of an abstract. I hadn't realized it might be more suited for a product. I can see your viewpoint, but the reason I liked this particular design is because I am trying to have a logo that has an active feel to it. Some of my clients will no doubt be unable to get the dog out to play and exercise on a daily basis, so I want them to realize that I will actually interact with their pet. This is one of the few designs that I have been presented with that actually shows an active dog/pet. The logo is not finalized, I can still change it, but I like the feeling it gives so I thought I'd try to make it work. It is eye-catching and simple too.
Even so, I have felt that something is missing about the logo and maybe it's not just the right tagline, maybe I can have a circle or oval around it somehow; could be just what it needs.

'Homestead' indicates the home and it's land. You may picture a family home. It is of the land and of nature. Our pets are of nature so to tie them in with the idea of a ranch or farm seems so fitting. I will service a city, but it is my feeling that pet owners are nature lovers too.

When I chose this name, it was primarily older kids with a few adults who helped me decide, everyone likes the word homestead; everyone feels they know what it means, even though it may mean something a little different to everyone.

I live in a city that is composed mainly of people that haved moved here from somewhere else. Everyone takes trips back home and cannot always take the pet. It is a working city too, so I believe many clients will be those working long hours. I'll find out but I also believe most of my clients will be over age 30 and in the baby boomer age range.

Chad, that is exactly what I have been trying to do is draw on emotion, at the same time try to convey I can provide what both people and their pets need. I especially like 'Because You Care',

more favorites are:

"Uninterrupted Love & Attention"

Your Home. Our Care.

Food, walks, love, security and.....FUN.

Home Alone? Not When We're Around!

The Next Best Thing To You.

and I may include guaranteed somehow..
I thank you all so much, I hate to close this, but I am going to do so in a couple of hours since I've had so much help already. If anyone still has any comments for me, please feel free to post as I will still get the responses.
