Improved Products
Posted By: bcousins* on 6/14/2006 10:44 AM (CST) 125 Points
My company, an electric motor manufacturer, recently improved a pool and spa motor to better accomodate market needs. What's the best way to say this without using the words "improved, or better?" I don't want to give the impression that our previous design was bad. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Consider words like enhanced, upgraded, or redesigned. They suggest that you've improved your product without making the previous version sound inferior. Also, in your copy focus on how you listened to the market needs/wants to take a great product to the next level.

You asked and we listened. We've enhanced the flow-through-combobulator. Which means you get better ___, quicker set-up, easier to clean, longer life, less time doing. And at the same cost as the previous version.

Then you could give current owners the chance to upgrade.

Just figure out the new benefits and focus your attention on that. Don't worry so much about the customer thinking your previous version wasn't up to par.

Even though it's cliché, people like, newer, better, improved, enhanced...The billion dollar corporations still use those words.

AOL keeps coming up with some newer version 9.0
Microsoft comes up with their MS Office every year.
Car manufacturers always come out with a newer version of last years model...does that make sense?

They tell you what's new and what it means to you.

bcousins,

I'd use "state of the art".

This indicates you are constantly improving (continuous improvement is something many companies love to harp about) and staying abreast of evolving technologies/trends.

Hope this helps,
John

I like enhanced redesign...

If you can say anything about increased energy efficiency that would be good... and any thing about better safety is aways great...

Many brands work on a theory known as planned obsolescence: A tactic by which a brand’s earlier offerings are made to appear less desirable in comparison with the brand’s newest offering, by altering consumer perceptions of the desirability of the models they have already purchased.

In contrast to this, other brands have embraced, what I'll call evolution, for lack of a better term.

I would look to a brand like Porsche. The Porsche "911" has been in production longer than any other vehicle. They have always taken the stance that they are continually improving Excellence. I've never heard of someone claiming that last years Porsche is obsolete.

I'd look to see how your brand can build on this same theory.

If we were your agency, we would suggest:

A Revolutionary Motor Design, that will forever change the way Pool Companies do business.

The 2006 model incorporates that latest advancements in electric motor design, including ...... This allows/provides you with ..... Language of this sort conveys the notion that you are always updating and improving - and that's a good thing!

How about something like :
We thought we couldn't improve it but we were wrong.
The best just got better
Proven but always improving
The Mellenium Motor
The motor with a Brain
The Pool and Spa Harmonizer 007
The motor ahead of its time.
Just some quick random thoughts.
Brenda.
