Name For Eco Friendly/zero Waste Type Tote/purse
Posted By: merle on 7/2/2006 4:14 PM (CST) 250 Points
I am looking for a name for my new product line. My products are made from material that would normally go into land fills, but I am taking it and making bags/purses out of it. The material is new, basically the end cuts of a mat like material.

I have racked my brain for a fun, hip, WOW name and nothing so far is clicking. I was going to use my name MERL-mindful & ecologically responsible living, but that is a mouthful, and MERL can be a tricky name to spell.

Merl is m name, so most logical, but any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I also thought of a date name, like Eight10.com or something like that, and a tagline or something letting people know- The start of a new line of eco products!

My name also has to be available in the .com as well, which has made it a little tricky as well. I really liked Zerobag but taken!

thank you for any and all suggestions

Hi Merle,

From your post above, it sounds as if you're looking for a name that balances feeling fashionable / contemporary with eco-friendly. I believe you're open to names that range from descriptive to evocative.

Here are a few more descriptive options:
Trashion
Re-creations / re-cre8
EcoChic
FashionSense (sense speaks to sensibility)

Some more evocative ideas:
Ladybug (this is a commonly used icon within the CPG industry to depict organic goods)
Ripple (you have the ability to make a change)
Bag Lady
*you'll need to be more descriptive with your tagline.

Good luck!

thank you very much for the reply and ideas. The idea of being both Eco-Friendly and Chic do need to come together in a very good name!

Yes, you are right, better tagline for sure.

If you'd like a number-related name, what about something that uses the date of Earth Day? I think it's 4/20, but I can't remember for sure.

I thought about Earth Day, as well as 46BY, for how old the earth is, 46 Billion Years.

then I was having trouble when people saw me with the proto type bag, and they said cool, bag what is the name of your new company, as well as the name of the bag, and it was hard to say 46BY, or April 20th, but maybe with a great tagline it could work?

I was also trying to think of some words like:
eco, re-use, and zero waste as that is what it is all about, but nothing came to me that was not taken as a dot com already!

I live in Aspen Colorado and thought about using the Aspen name, but then I thought not everyone likes Aspen, or knows where it is, and also if I do sell to other ski resorts, they really do not want the Aspen name on it.

thank you-merle

I personally don't think envolving any name that refers to trash in your name because I know most women (including my wife) would rather see the men through out the garbage.

I think EcoChic is a fantastic name (good job lara)

I also think BioChic or BioBag would be great names. (Just being nastalgic from Bio-Dome back in the early 90's.

Your introducing what you hope to be a trendy product, but keeping in mind you don't want to be age specific or income specific, I think I would focus my efforts on using a generic term for woman such as chic, lady, or something like Ecofemme. Using that will broden your product line and will keep you well balanced in your audience. The next idea I would focus on is making sure that is you use the "recylced" idea, that you keep away from saying waste, trash, or anything that could bring a woman's senses to think, smell, or any other sense that would envolved trash. Use your wording careully because that could be a make or breaker for your product. Also keep in mind from your discriptions that there are bags being made from Capri-suns, M.R.E. bags, and other items that are scrap form foods that are built to be strong. Build off any ideas there you can as well, because that market is very large in the collegestudent down market. There are many college that have design schools using those ideas for class projects so be careful how much of your product ideas you put out there because there are many ladies looking for the quick product item to make them famous, trademark whatever you come up with as fast as you make it so that you don't find your product replicated everywhere as soon as you market it.

Good luck

thank you SHannon- I have been wanting to either trademark or patent my idea, since the material I am actually using is different. But a patent is only for the design of the bag and not the material used, or at least I did not find anything to help protect my material from being used and used again by other people.

I just need to get this out ASAP, and the name seems to be a stopping point for me. I do have bags made and will be getting them into stores-hard to do, while still being a super mom, running our other rental business, as well as 2 dogs and the house!!

But I WILL do it:)

OK, I agree with you, stay away from trash, waste, etc..

I might even go with the eco10 or another number, as eco10.com is taken. But that way people get the eco part, and then a good tagline and help as well.

thank you-
merle

Try this name and address ....... StowAway.com

Like your product, a StowAway rides for less, next to no eco foot print. Being a Bag, Stowing Away items is what bags are for so immediately visual and literal understanding for everyone.

Most tradional StowAways are leaving hardship to hopefully find a better place ... like your waste material starting its new life.

Very little consumer education needed with this name and I believe the .com is available.

Tagline?

Carry-On With Less.
A great mantra for this old blue marble if we are not going to change how we do things quickly.

TagLine suggests a use; 'Carry-On' Flight Bag etc but also encourages each of us to buy into the recyling movement or continue working at it! A traditional 'call to action'!!

Each customer is told to join in the Movement ....
It is literally at hand, your hand.

Let me know if this is in the right drection for you and GL!

How about ADAPT2NEW.COM?

I have the rights to this domain name, as I had been developing a similar idea (see www.bannerbags.com).

My current wonderful job prevents me from proceeding with this business development, so if you would like to consider the name, Adapt 2 New, you are welcome to the name. No charge, just let me know.
