From all the searches and references I found, INcluding talking to people who were alive back then, The answer is yes. It amy have been toward the late fifties.

I live in Oklahoma, only 2 hours from the Texas border, so this question is close to home.

Good Luck!

Hi:

I did a little research as well. Here is the official reference to Corona Exports, which is listed in the mid-1960's:

However, the beer was in direct distribution and had many agent agreements. Given the low retail price (in U.S. Dollars in post-WWII Texas, I would wager that many entrepreneurs found a way to transport (read smuggle) the beer into the U.S. and sell it on the "grey" market.

I hope this helps.

Here is some additional info. Apparently, Corona was owned by a Puerto Rican company until 1957. It wasn't until 1979 when Modelo acquired the rights to legally sell the brand in Texas.

However, as Jim noted, I'm sure it made it's way in via other means and perhaps even by the PR brewery.

Here is a link to more info:

Hello all. I am closing this question, dividing the points among the contributors. This is our standard procedure when the Asker gets busy and falls out of the conversation for a while – or isn't clear about the process for closing.

Thanks, so much, for participating!
