Online Adventure Sports Site...help With Slogan!!
Posted By: sdtincup* on 8/7/2006 5:58 PM (CST) 250 Points
Hi Everyone...

First off I'd like to say great site; I've read a few of the forum postings and I'm finding a wealth of suggestions for people in same situation I'm in...needless to say I had to immediately register and post! lol

I'm working on an online adventure sport website designed to be a reference source hi-lighting gear manufacturers, sport associations, equipment reviews, etc. Although in development, I hope to one day expand to actually selling gear and equipment...if you're in the U.S., envision something like an REI.

I've spent a great deal of time coming up with a decent name, designing a logo and most importantly, laying out the website (not yet up; slated to be built by yours truly). However, I'm missing a really good slogan...and could use some help! =)

The name of the company is Moxie Sports...coverage will include adventure sports such as triathlons, cycling, backpacking, scuba diving and so forth (24 sports in all). Here are some of the ones I came up with, but I could really use some input. My mind's obviously tainted a bit, I'm very interested to hear if any ofthese have a ring to them, or could be envisioned as a tagline/slogan for this company. Or if you have some great ideas of your own, I'd certainly love to hear them!

Some considerations:
1. Just add adrenalin
2. One world, infinite adventures
3. Pursue your passion for adventure
4. Sea to sky adventures
5. Bold by design
6. When enough, isn't
7. Gateway to adventure
8. Adventure's proving grounds
9. Adventure redefined (or personified)
10. Dare to try

Any help, input, advice is greatly appreciated and I'd like to thank everyone in advance to taking time to ready my post! And most important, be honest! lol

Thank you!

Hi SDTinCup

Sounds like a pretty exciting venture! You have a great list of slogans, my top faves are:

1) just add adrenalin
2) one world, infinite adventures

Have you had a look at other adventure websites to get some inspiration? Although, the trouble with too many ideas is you have to choose ONE!

Good luck.

Vendita.

Hi Vendita,

Thank you, it's something I've been kicking around for a long time and am just now working to get something out there. But obviously from a business and marketing standpoint, you have to nail down these pesky little details...logo, slogan, etc...and it's enough to drive you insane! lol

Although my site will be different in many ways from what else is out there, I have been doing some fairly extensive online research. And you hit exactly on the issue with this...very hard to choose one!

I'm hoping I'll either get a fairly clear voting favorite here or something I hadn't even considered.

Thanks!

While "Just add adrenalin" caught my eye (and is certainly catchy), it was also first in your list. Your favourite of the lot? If you were actually polling (here, friends and family, elsewhere), I would suggest narrowing your list to 3-5 and randomizing the order...to avoid your own selection bias.

On the other hand, your instincts sound strong. If you favour that one by a long shot...it's probably with good reason. If that is the case, just go with it. Taglines can change.

All the best!

Let me start by saying I love the name Moxie and I love the "Just add adrenaline" option.

Don't second guess your list, the majority of them are strong. The only ones that I personally would remove are:

Sea to sky adventures - sounds like a travel agency to me

Gateway to Adventure - sounds blah to me

Adventure's proving grounds - you have to think too much about the meaning initially

Good luck and great job defining yourself!

I like the adrenalin line, but it seems that it could fit better as "Adrenalin comes standard" or something like that. I think you are trying to say that these products that you are marketing will lead to adrenalin automatically, not that you need to "add" it. Just a thought...

Hi Folks...excellent feedback!

Jon,
I'd actually thought of narrowing it down a bit, but it was just too tough! I actually have a lot more, but many of them were various derivatives of the same theme. The first one was literally just chance that it was number one...I should have mentioned that they are in no particular order, my bad! lol Thank you very much for the feedback!!!

Alyson,
Yeah, lucked out with the name. I'd had a site up previously, but I just never absolutely settled on my domain name. My wife and I went to dinner one night at a local pizza joint...they had Moxie Soda (one of the first in the world) and the name just hit me...I thought that's it! haha Very good feedback on the ones to remove, sometimes that helps more than the first choices, thanks!

Vic,
Nice suggestion, I like it! The only hitch is that I fear most people will see that and think "team" sports such as basketball, football, etc. My focus is strictly adventure sports, most of which are individual in nature. But I do like that, it's very simple and to the point.

With the feedback so far, I see this as a new short list (in no particular order):

Pursue your passion for adventure
When enough, isn't
One world, infinite adventures
Just add adrenalin
Bold by design
Adventure redefined (or personified)
Dare to try

Keep that great feedback coming!!!
Thank you!

Hi Jennifer,

Thanks...I never realized how hard it is to come up with stuff before! I've made extensive use of thesaurus.com for word ideas. My other hope is that whatever I end up selecting does not become dated down the road.

Thanks again!

Hi Megli,

Sorry...I missed your post & didn't get a chance to respond. I hadn't thought about that...adrenalin comes standard...that's certainly an option/play on what I'd originally had (just add adrenalin). Good input, thank you!

"Just add adrenalin" gets my vote.

I think it's a winner.

Thought of these:

- It IS the adrenalin.
- The adrenalin rush.
- Feel the rush.
- Advantage, Adventure, Adrenalin.

Hi Joekelepolo,

So far that seems to be the frontrunner of the choices I put up for comparison. Very interesting to see input from people who don't have the cluttered mind I now have in trying so many various combinations! Also interesting on the last one you wrote...I did have a couple samples that were along that line, but I hadn't thought of those...I might have to play with that a bit.

Great feedback, thank you!

Wow...I am exceptionally glad I came across this site...I've gotten some great and unbiased feedback here!!!

Frank Hurtte,
Thank you very much for the poll...any chance you can let me in on the number of people polled? A larger enough pool might just seal the deal as it were! =)

Ag-gervais,
Hands down? Sounds very definitive, thank you! And that's one thng I'm somewhat counting on, the word moxie and it associations out on the 'Net I'm hoping can do nothing but to help me expand the name when it comes time to marketing, etc.

Thank you both for the help!!! Everyone, please keep those comments and votes coming (including any derivatives that might sound better), eveyrone is truly helping shape the future of my vision!

Hi rags1345,

Thanks for the input! Funny you mention the others to consider, the previous version of this website was adventurequester.com. I was going through the same type of name selection, but had some different base words.

Thanks!

Okay everyone, I think I’m almost there!!! It seems “Just add adrenalin” is everyone’s frontrunner…by far! “Megli” brought up an interesting point that I hadn’t considered; I’d like some final input before closing this question. The observation was that the products/sports I’m covering in my website would likely lead to adrenalin automatically; implying that you wouldn’t need to “add” it.

Alternatives could then be something like:
Adrenalin included
Adrenalin comes standard
Adrenalin induced
Others??

What are everyone’s thoughts on this? Is that potentially reading too deep into the meaning of this tagline or something I should consider? Being so fixated on other aspects, I’d never considered this. I’m guessing I would need to weigh that against which option seems catchier, easy to remember, etc.

Another couple lines came to mind:
Where adrenalin and adventure collide
Where adrenalin meets adventure
Others??

I think I finally see that light at the end of the tunnel…and it’s not the next train coming down the tracks! Hopefully some final votes and input will seal the deal. Again, I can’t thank everyone enough for the unbiased and valuable opinions…keep ‘em coming!
Thanks,
SDTinCup

"Just Add Adrenalin" is still my favorite.

Along the other lines, here's another one...

I think I’ve finally decided. The votes have been overwhelmingly in favor of “Just add adrenalin” so that’s what I’m going with. I envision this on my homepage:

Pursue your passion with the definitive authority on outdoor adventure sports (or words to that effect; serves as a brief descriptor of site’s purpose)

Moxie Sports…just add adrenalin (tagline/slogan to be used on all marketing & other materials)

I’ll leave this open for another day before closing and awarding points. Needless to say I’ll be back requesting a critique of my website down the road!

Any final thoughts or comments are very welcome and appreciated; I’ve enjoyed the feedback I’ve gotten!!

Thanks again,
SDTinCup

Am I too late? I have several suggestions ...... and a vote for 2 of yours:

Moxie sports: Full throttle adventure
Moxie Sports: push your limit
Moxie sports: Know your limits. Then crush them. (or you can use break them)

I'm not sure how you feel about this one, but it plays off the Olympics logo:

- Moxie Sports: Swifter, higher, deeper, stronger

From your list of current options, I like the Just add adrenalin & one world, infinite adventures.

Hi ward5830,

Thank you for the input, you really came up with some things I'd never considered! I do think the "Just add adrenalin" is the winner, I was actually surprised at the response as I was leaning towards an entirely different one...go figure! haha

Thanks again for the suggestions, I'm taking those away with me as there will likely be other areas within my website where I can add these types of taglines.

Thank you again everyone for their votes and great feedback!! As you can see from my last post, Just add adrenalin is the clear winner. What I really appreciated seeing is that many of you didn't just "like it", but thought it was appropriate for the web content I described...exactly what I was hoping for.

Again thank you, I'll go ahead and close this question. No doubt I'll be back when I'm farther along, the advice here is well worth it!

Thanks,
SDTinCup
