College Cafe Needs A Name
Posted By: DShot* on 9/6/2006 10:32 AM (CST) 125 Points
We are currently in the process of re-branding two of our dining options in our Student Union. One is a coffee shop and the other is a sandwich shop. These will be combined into one concept within our food court. Now we just need a name for it. I really want to stay away from some of the cheezy coffee pun names, plus we are offering more than just coffee. I'd like for it to be something simple and hip that college students will gravitate to. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, in advance, for your help!

Coffee Shop... I wouldnt worry about the need to let people know coffee shops have more than coffee.. Starbucks has already done that for you

Caffeine Cocktails
Hot Shot
Extreme Caffeine

You'll especially want to think of things that fit in this sentence "Hey, wanna go over to _____'s?" and that lend themselves to a nickname or abbreviation...

Study Fuel
Extra-Curricular
"Liquid Tutorials" & it's counter-part "Study Food"
Calories
Between-Meals
Between Classes

My favorite bar in Baton Rouge was called "The Library"... so your roommate could honestly tell your parents where you were every night... could do something like that

"Study Group"
(and have the college aged food pyramid on the wall coffee / popcorn / pizza / pretzels, etc.)

Good luck and have fun!

How about, "The Common Ground"...
the word "grounds" imply coffee and "common" gives the impression of a place where people can be relaxed and at the same level. I'd definitely go to a place with that name

iDrink iEat

iEat, Therefore iAm
iEat, Therefore iDrink

These fit inline with the current trend of little "i" before the word, ala iPod. However, you run the risk of that "fad" dying out and you would look out of date.

Thanks so much to everyone for your suggestions. Keep them coming as I'd like to provide the committee a variety of options.

lourdesrelyea - I love that name. Unfortunately, there already is a shop in town with that name.

who has donated the most money to your student union. i think it's a s simple as that.

at colby, where i went to school, our options were: Foss, Dana, Roberts and the Johnson Spa.

So,

Foss Cafe

etc.

We currently have the following coffee house's in our community: The Daily Grind, The Common Ground, The Third Place, Aspen Coffee Company, Stout Coffee and Cafe Bella.

fred.ramstedt - No one has donated money to our Student Union. It is funded via student fees and self-operating bookstore and food court.

Keep the ideas coming. These are great!

Seeing as its a young, and i'm guessing, hip crowd, maybe something a little irreverent like- Three Beans.

There is no meaning behind it, I just like it.

if that's the case maybe you could look to your alumni for support. instead, the answer is much more clear:

Our Place

Student's Snack Lounge

"Your School Mascot" Snack Hut

etc.

you get the idea. include somthing that shows schools spirit.

Hi, this is my first time responding, but I have always enjoyed reading.

How about "Joe Schmoe's"? I know you weren't too keen on using coffee aka's but it's a bit subtle. Then you could have one of the talented students (or even put it to an art class there?) create the "mascot" of Joe Schmoe.

Anyhow, good luck!

A little more information will help generate a lot more ideas.

What college?
Where?
Mascots?
Famous aspects of college, city, graduates?

You know if it was where Britney Spears went to school (I don't think she went anywhere at least to study) name it "Britney Slept Here!" type thing.

Good Luck

Charles

Here are some ideas:

The Redeye

LafCaf

Nervy's

The Highwire

They each offer obvious themes and a "college" feel (well, WE never had a fancy-pants cafe court. It was all books and tests and...now, where'd I put my teeth...).

Hi Debbie,

I am sure your students appreciate being catered to at your establishment and I would capitalize on it. The name below is very cool and speaks to your "target market".

Name-
It is all about you!
Tagline-

Best of Luck on your project.

I will be awarding points to those names that I am including on the list. Thanks, again, for all of your help!
