Naming A Jewelry Design Business
Posted By: groves_s* on 9/17/2006 9:19 AM (CST) 250 Points
I design earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc. (all jewelry). My designs could best be described as "trendy". I use lots of metal and beads. I make them for friends & family but am planning to start a true business to earn income for my efforts. I need an exciting name that says trendy jewelry (not "trendy jewelry" please). My name is Susan which isn't too exciting to use in the name.

When you say trendy does it mean "popular"? Because I think "designer jewellery" sound like "Houte Couture" and if you use the word "design" or something like that it might sound "expensive", but if trendy is popular than it should not be expensive isn't it?
My suggestion is if they would be expensive maybe you can just use your name and surname as a signuture
but if not you can maybe say JWTrends like " jewellery trends"

Hot Rocks - Hot Rox if its taken.

While clever name is good Bling Design might get more hits on a website... does what it says on the label.

Simple, punchy, decsriptive and not challenging is good.

Mashed up letters and pseudo words a bad idea created by US marketeers because people have hi jackled and registered all the sensible names so they can sell them to you although they are unused.

Where are you manufacturing? my friends in this seem to go to Thailand to get designs made.

I have a killer answer but not a killer solution; I'll explain.

Since fashion means both "style" (which is what jewelry is all about) and "to construct" (jewelry is fashioned by hand) - I saw a powerful double entendre for the word fashion. But to use it as a verb and make it obvious, the word would have to be spelled differently in its verb version. Alas, both the verb form and noun form of fashion are spelled the same.

Then I saw a way to use "trendy" without saying trendy. Quickly; what happens when people see something they have to have? They get worked up in a fever. Hot trends have the ability to do that to people.

Ok, so we're close to having a cool, hip and powerful name but have the roadbump of the verb/noun thing to overcome. Depending on how forward your thinking is, you could consider adding the (v.) you see in dictionaries to your name:

Fashion (v.) Fever

It's a bit of a stretch, but with the right logo treatment, it could be pulled off. Plus, you've got illiteration in the name which always helps people remember.

So, "fashion fever" could be 1) something your clients get as customers and 2) something you have as a designer

i need a cold newcastle...
