Brand Name For Line Of Frozen Dough Products
Posted By: corey* on 10/6/2006 9:57 AM (CST) 250 Points
I need to develop a brand name for a line of frozen dough products. The staple product will be gourmet frozen biscuits with the addition of cookies and other dough products in the future. Our competitors are Pillsbury, Mary B's and White Lilly. I would love to find something that has the same name qualities as Lipton, Pillsbury, Stouffers etc. We could even use an individuals name such as Newman’s Own etc. Let me know your thoughts.

Well all of the ones you mentioned are names of people. It's the way it was done back then and they ahve sepct lots of years and millions making the names what they are today.

So start with a name and make it something.

I agree with the fact that those companies have all spent a lot of time and money on their brands. The main goal of this post is to hear some ideas from someone other than my spouse and family members.

Corey,
Who is the target audience and what is the distribution channel?

Is this going to be sold in the traditional food channel, Gourmet stores or some other avenue?

There are thousands of new products in the traditional grocery channel each year that come and go because they aren't prepared for the challenge of marketing through the supermarket industry. What ever you choose it needs to invoke an emotion of being as good as or better than homemade or as good as grandma makes...

browncatfan is correct in the warmth/hearth feeling.

Take a step back and determine the reason this product is being made in the first place. Someone had a vision of supplying the community with at product that they feel is the best that has ever been and or reminded them of what they used to get or are getting at the breakfast table or at grandma's house...

Somewhere in those thoughts is your answer. Be wary of catchy or too clever of a name that doesn't invoke an emotion of comfort for this food product.

Fresh, Gourmet, Country Oven, Baker, Aroma, Warmth, Delicious, Grandma, Mom, Golden, Flaky, Home, Kitchen...

Mix and match these naming attributes with some of the above answers while thinking about why this product was developed and you may get your name.

Good Luck!
