Contact Lenses Online Store Web Directory Review
Posted By: dminenko* on 10/13/2006 5:42 PM (CST) 500 Points
Hi Profs,

We have created this site to create directory of contact lens online stores so it will be easy for shoppers to 1) get more info about contact lenses and its manufacturers 2) find online stores that sell them, check their ratings 3) check prices on contact lenses

Please visit www.contactlens-prices.com and evaluate it by following criteria:

1. Overall look of site (attractive, boring, easy or difficult to use and browse)

2. Credibility (first impression, attraction to try, information richness, transparency, trust feeling for search results)

3. Usefulness. Do you feel that it is easy to find contact lens online store, check info and compare prices? Do you feel it is usefull enough to be bookmarked and referred to friends?

Any comments and suggestions to user interface and graphic design improvements are welcome.

dminenko, Very professional--it's a pass from me. Easy to navigate - very fast from my DSL line and soothing to the eyes. If I wore contacts this would be the site I would want to be at. I also recommend it for eye doctors & trust you get money too since your site is worth it's value as it appears from my point of view.
Have fun on your other additives from below.

1. overall look of site difficult and jumbled. it does not make a clear-cut statement about the site and is far far too busy.
2. all the questions for two are thrown out the window because there is so much informatiln there that it iimpossible to answer the question. it is sensory overload of the highest order. the overall impression is that this is a professional site in the sense that these people know what they are talking bout and it offers all sorts of useful and relevant information but why so much information on one page.
3. agian the usefulness of the information is there, no doubt about it, it just lacks any kind of creative single image statement for the site. instead it is a jumble mumble of far too much info. keep the first page simple and drive home the message you want people visiting the site to get and use strong images and pictures and bigger and bolder typefaces. the rest people can lclick on. think of your page in terms of a retail store and its design. you want to leaving a lasting first impression that has the right merchandise mix...your site should be the same. sorry to be so negative but you have it all there it is just the way it is layed out. it is a question of deisign and not information.

Hi kathysmithcasting and peanutpeanut,

Kathy - thanks for such positive respond, I am flattered. Please visit site again in day or two and let me know if you get any NEGATIVE feelings about it.

peanutpeanut - I am somewhat agree with you, but as a SEO specialist I know - the more text saturated with main keywords you put on home page, the better chances to be picked by Google and other search engines. This site is brand new and will be polished. So I don't have any hard feelings for this critical respond, actually I appreciate negative responds as much as positive. As webmaster with long list of accomplished projects I know how different people can feel about the same site.

Thanks for you time, guys, I appreciate it.

I am a contact lens wearer and I not only found your site pretty user friendly...I may use it!

There are always things that you can do to make it better...but as a pure prospect, I would be interested.

Dear Dmitriy Minenko,

On aesthetics (Look & Feel) the site is worked out reasonably.

On contents, it appears to be relevant, useful and informative.

The Features - "Updates", "links", "news" and "Reviews" would be very useful for the contact lens users - visitors.

On moving the cursor on the icon (for e.g. "editor's pick) there should be a pop-up narration as to what it is.

On texts (narrations) you could economize on words. Try to put it in very few powerpacked words.

For example your text says :

"A contact lens pioneer for decades, CooperVision has become the second largest contact lens maker in the world and the number one manufacturer of toric lenses".

Could we say it as :

" A Pioneer for decades; World's 2nd largest manufacturer on contact lens; #1 on toric lens".

A lot still could be done on this area. Otherwise a rich source for information on contact lens.

Best Wishes,

kannan

Hi dminenko,

I do agree that there is too much text on the page … however if it is needed for SEO purposes then so be it!!! Regardless, I have made a list of design suggestions below ….

1. You definitely need a logo

2. The cross line design is a little distracting … and I have 20/20 vision … :)

3. I think it would look really nice if you rounded the corners on the very top and bottom of your page. I would also add a very thin line to frame it …

4. Love the icons!!!

5. The square call outs on the left side … try making the inside of each box a lighter shade of blue or gray than the header… this might help to make it look less cluttered.

6. Also is it possible to move “random links”, “contact lens news”, “contact lens reviews” to their own separate pages?

7. The banner just feels like it was stuck there as an after thought … either sell advertisers the entire space with just a thin blue border, or left/right justify the banner and put your logo, stock photo image or something next to it ….

8. The turquoise header on the sub-pages does not mesh well with the rest of your color scheme … I pulled your image into Photoshop … I think the cmyk color code is #2979a5 based on that code the complementary colors are below:

Thanks Aimee and Kannan,

I will take your suggestions into consideration for sure.

I am pretty happy that my general design idea basically worked out, changes will make it look look even better.

I still hope to get more ideas how to improve this site.

Well, it seems to me the issue is that in your own words you get a lot of people looking at the site but it does not translate into action and hence i think you need to clean up the site considerably and make it easier for consumers to act once they have hit your site. you only have achieved one major aspect of your objectives and i can tell you as a consumer your site is too busy. there is a company here where i live and they sell contact lenses and they are widely successful and their site is a lot cleaner and easier than yours.

I totally agree with Aimee about the banner - waste of space and detracts from your identity.

The icons seem a little generic. Consider developing a more custom "tool bar" for these functions.

There seems to be far too much copy on the home page - try going into each section and editing down from a paragraph to a sentence. Have the sentence click for more detail.

Once I go in to compare prices, I'm a little thrown by getting a "Health prices" header - I'd stick with the contact-lens brand on all pages, even if they're just copies of another site you run.

Good luck!

dminenko,

Took another look and I still agree with my first impression, but to create more for your site and improve it, I suggest putting a picture(s) of just eyes or something that communicates vision. I googled these ideas and you could have your choice, your create of different shapes/colors of eyes be your icons.
http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&client=safari&rls=en&q=c...

Finally, this gave me the idea on the above and helped educate me on the genetics of eyes. Toss it or whatever...I had fun playing it once or twice.

Thanks for suggesting wait and view again; I will do that on other things too.

I like it ..very easy to understand and easy to navigate.

I would take a look at the logo contactlens-price.com. It looks a little grainy and distracts from the site.

Perhaps the size of the logo file needs to be upped.

Thanks all for your responces. This is brand new website and I'll definitely do some polishing before I start promoting it on search engines.
