Need Product Name For Remote Backup OfferingPremium Member

LockNET is a network security and IT firm focusing on financial institutions and several other markets. We are just rolling out a remote backup service, and I need a product name to compliment our other offerings.

The remote backup service automatically backups up whatever data the client requests offsite via internet. It can store data incrementally every 15 minutes, and we can store from 30 days to 7 years of client data. The client can save several folders, or a complete server if desired. Note it is not just remote storage, it is a true backup system that continuously backups up your data with no user interaction.

Data is restored immediately, and can be a single file or whatever folders or databases required. For example, if you deleted a file from last Thursday at 9:30 AM, we can recover the file you had at that time.

If you are familiar with tape backup, this service has a major advantage of allowing a data restore directly, without having to find the physical tape, reconstruct the file, and get it to the requester. In this case, LockNET handles the recover and delivers the data to you electronically in a ready to use format.

We have two current services with product names:

nfire - Network Security Management
nsentry - Remote Network Management

What I am looking for a is a name for the remote backup that describes what we are offering, and compliments the "n" naming convention (n for network) in the existing products. The name "nbackup" is already taken, so don't suggest that one.

The LockNET website is a www.locknet-inc.com look in the Products section to see how we represent our other offerings.

Thanks for the help!

Steve,

Your hyperlink doesn't work-

Why don't you just call the product

"NBack"

Random brainstorms:

nSave.net
nTimer.com - How often is your data backed up?
nBlessed.com - Once it's blessed, it's saved. lol.
nCheck.net - Check it once & it's safe. (Use the check symbol instead of the word.)
nBackDown - Minutes to back up. Minutes to back down.
nupndown.com - nUp-nDown: All you need to back up and store your data.
nDone.com - Simpliest way to back up and back down your data. (I like this one. Try saying "n done dot com" really fast 10 times)
nTuitive.net - Even your mama could do it.

This was fun.

ViaBuzz and Kathy, thanks for the thoughts on nback. I had considered nbacker, but I thought it might be too cutesy (play on fall football season).

Zahid, thanks for the ideas based on moving the emphasized n in the name.

Relate to your product:

nstore
Restore but replacing the 're' with 'n' from network & lockNet services

ndata
As above + 'n' in mathematical represents so far undefined large number (on same theme 'nthdata' or 'nthtime')

ntrust
Data is important esp. to the financial services market therefore they should trust backup to with you. Good associaiton of this benefit. Also pronouced as 'entrust' which is hand over...

ndirect
Relates to the benefit over tapes - of Direct backup (However, note it can and will be pronounced as 'indirect' and this may not be a word you want to be associated with you)

Word play:
ndependent
i.e. independent - your customer will be free & independent as a result of this...

nmediate
i.e. immediate - your customer will have immediate backup

nforce
i.e. enforce - security firms need to be strong and unmoving against attack

nprove
i.e. improve - your customers will improve and can improve on their systems through your back up service

Perhaps for other products that popped to mind through word play:
nergize
i.e. energize

What's your metaphor? What's the big emotional win your customer gets by safely and securely backing up their most important stuff remotely?

Is it an archive (nArchive)?
Is it the proverbial "Do Over" (nDoOver... and maybe not)?
Or is it your Guardian Angel (nGuard)?

You may want to steer clear of product names that aren't spelled like they sound -- the nTertain will always be misspelled, 'entertain'.

Good luck!

I don't know if this has been suggested , but how about "ncover" as a play on recover.

Well I think it has to be one word with two syllables to match the others. Also fire and sentry are very 'services' oriented so you need to follow that theme as well.

nSecure (more firewall/security)
nBase
nBrigade (think Brigade has been used before but can't remember what)
nPatrol (don't like it so much as Patrol has been used before by BMC)
nPoint (the forward man or element on a combat patrol)

nBase is too like the original database before go live.

I think I like nPoint best for a backup solution as we always have restore points.

Kym

Some great play on words, a number of these have been considered by us before but a number of new ones.

I kind of like shdenny's nGaurd, it is an active word and fits with our other product names.

Interesting that nforce came up from paca001, on of the employees also offer this and I had not made the connection you did above. ntrust was also suggested by several.

I will keep the question open another day for additional thoughts. Keep the creative juices coming!

The great ones have been suggested already. Here's my suggestion:

nControl
- Whatever happens to the data, you will always be in control of the situation because the info is always there and safe.

nCompass
- Enables you to LOCATE your information.

nAble (just a play on enable)

Hope this helps!

We brain-stormed with a panel of consumers, and then filetered the list down based on a set of criteria we have used for years and come up with:

nSure
nSecure
nTrust
nRetain
nKeep
nCareFor
nPreserve
nHold
nSave
nStore
nVault

Good Luck

LOVE
nAble
nStore

I think
nPreserve is very strong too

How about: (Forgive any dupes)
nProtect
nShield
nPreserve
nGuard

Fun assignment. Let me know when you have the product up and running, I'd be interested in checking it out for my company!

NCase

Double meaning... incase you need data back... encase data in protection.

Good Luck!

You've got lots of good ideas here. Here are a few more thoughts:

nRecover
nKeep
nLifeline
nGuard

I see you aren't capping the letter after the "n" prefix, but if you could, it would help you read the resulting word.

If the emphasis on the leading "n" is optional, here are a few ideas that you may want to consider.

Back-nTrack
Stores-nMore
Load-nLock

Then again, you could always just say:

nNough
