How To Start An Affiliate With Our £high Priced Used Items?

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
We've put £millions and 8 years into building our content of quality used items for sale that contain enough information for people to pay big bucks to buy the items unseen. We've got great customer testimonials on our site through selling over 500 £high ticket items through eBay. We now want to build an appropriate affiliate scheme that gets quality appropriate sites embedding our listings in return for a £persale.

We don't want to adversly affect our SEO plans. Our listings do contain strong branding. We also need to understand how an affiliate scheme might interfere with our affinity partnerships. We need it to be country specific.

Whilst we've got great in-house programming abilities - we've got a limited marketing department - and would probably be best suited to working with an agency to assist us. Can anyone advise us on how to start on this exciting journey?

    Dear Rebecca,

You've done the hard part by establishing your content and building your brand/reputation. What will work for you is that this reputation will not only help you in attracting customers but also affiliates to promote your products. As an affiliate myself, I know I would put more effort in promoting an established but still unsaturated product like yours.

The first step would be making a list of the type of websites you think your prospective customers would visit. Remember to make this as specific as possible. You can also use your existing sales data to determine your target market and then figure out what kind of sites they will visit.

Once you have your site list - your next step would be to search for high traffic websites that satisfy your requirements ( would be in your list). You can use Alexa or other website ranking sites to figure out which specific websites have the most traffic in thier field.

Your method of contacting the owners of the website would depend on the actual product you are selling and the type of sites you are targeting as prospective affiliates. If there are a large amount of websites that meet your requirements you can use a well worded email to introduce them to your product etc. If you are looking to be more specific then you can personally contact the owners - email them introducing your product and ask them for a phone number etc if one is not there on the website.

Of course before embarking on getting affiliates for your business you would first have to determine the amount or percentage that you will pay them in terms of $ per sale - A good website detailing your product portfolio and terms is a must.

More information on your product portfolio will help the marketing agency ( if you hire one) to help you out in more detail with the above.

    Hope this helps.
