Need A Topic For A Horse 4-h Project, Any Ideas?
Posted By: iadoremymorgan on 12/7/2006 5:58 PM (CST) 250 Points
Hi, I am currently enrolled in horse 4-h. This is my 5th year, but I am running out of ideas for a required oral presentation, due in Feb. I need something that is obviously related to horses, and that isn't too broad. For example, a few I have done before are, Morgan horses, Equine Dentistry, Horse Trailering, the Dressage Arena, and Horse Colic. It needs to be a detailed topic, but not too complex that it will have overwhelming information. I hope someone has a good idea out there! Thanks so much!

This is really a Marketing site, not an equine one.

How about "Marketing the Riding School/Academy"? There must be lots of riding schools out there (I have two daughters, so I know a bit about this...) that struggle to make ends meet.

You could examine the operational cost structure, pricing, promotion, product mix, etc.

Good luck.

Why not do something on longevity and care of the senior equine? I owned an incredible Belgian Morgan mix who lived to be 42 years old. I rode him (gently) up until he was 38. It was an amazing journey and he fascinated the vets. I miss him every day.

Or what about programs dedicated to horses and the handicapped?

Or what about odd horse stories? Talk to trainers & vets and get their most unusual horse patients.

Or how about the latest innovations in equine nutrition? There is an new product out there called Succeed. (www.succeeddcp.com) A friend of mine directed the creative on this account and has told me of the amazing results it has.

Good luck and Happy Trails-
Mop

How about History of the Horse in War

How about the technology behind the care and recovery of injured race horses, or more specifically, that of the recently injured Barbaro. His surgery, rehab and touch 'n go recovery may be of interest.

Or to play off of Michael's suggestion:
History of the Horse as a working animal

Or trace the lineage of a particular breed

Something that is close to my heart is driving horses. i.e. Carriage driving
In college I gave guided tours through historic Philadelphia by horse & carriage. There are a number of driving clubs and competitions throughout the country.

Hope these help.
Theresa

Assuming you are in the U.S., the topic of horse slaughter is hot and controversial. There are arguments to present on both sides of the issue.

If that topic is not to your liking, how about the topic of a vacation on horseback, say in Ireland? easy to research, fun to dream about.

Back to the marketing issue with equines...what about "Promotional Products For Horse Lovers and Horse Owners?"

This could also include marketing and advertising specialties used at Horse Races such as the Kentucky Derby, how much money is invested in horse-related promotional campaigns and items (horse race lovers want those horse souvenirs), how promotional items are used in horse-related advertising mix, how much money companies, organizations and cities spend on horse-related promotions and advertising specialties, etc.

Extensions of this topic could include how horse-related promotional items and souvenirs are chosen each year and the ever-popular "Highball Horses"-horse-related promotional items that have become collectibles (The Kentucky Derby’s julep tumblers and glasses for example.)

An interesting topic may be about Vices and Bad Habits and how to cure them in addition that what may cause them whether man- or equine-made.
