Tagline For My Freelance Business
Posted By: rhythmtown* on 12/18/2006 4:00 PM (CST) 250 Points
I am in need of a tagline for my freelance business. The business in called RhythmTown Video & Design. My thoughts have been along the lines of Creativity in motion or Creativity in motion. However, I am finding that this doesn't capture the essence of what I do, utilitizing both video and design ( I have a graphic design degree).
I would greatly appreciate any input you may have thanks!

You need to start by developing a positioning statement that captures the most important benefit you will deliver to your target audience. You also need to define that target audience as precisely as possible.

Unless and until you do that, coming up with the tagline is a futile exercise. How are you going to know when you have a winner? Suppose we come up with 30 suggested taglines. What criteria will you use to select the best one? How will you know if any of them are any good?

Think about what important unmet need your target audience has that you can satisfy uniquely well. Why should they hire you? What makes you different from (and better than) every other graphic designer with a degree in graphic design?

Don't focus on what YOU do, or what degree YOU have. Your positioning (and your tagline, presumably) should address the benefit your target audience will realize when they hire you. They could care less what your degree is in or how you do whatever it is graphic designers do. Do you ask your automobile mechanic where he learned to tune your car engine, or how he does it? Of course not.

And also think about what you want your tagline to do for you. What will be different when you have a tagline? What thoughts/concepts/feelings do you want it to communicate? WHY do you even want a tagline.

You need to help us if you want us to help you. See if you can answer these questions and then let's work on the tagline. To start at the finish line is going to be a frustrating (and probably not very fruitful) exercise.

My target audience is business, churches, bands, and individuals. As most of you probably know a logo or a certain look can be the deciding factor why your business fails. For instance, John Ratzenburger from Seinfeld could not open a hamburger joint using his last name. It is doomed to fail!
The thing that makes my business stand out is that being a freelancer, I can produce quality designs for considerably less than other designers. Also, companies do not have to employ a full-time designer.
My problem could be that I have to wide of a target audience. Any thoughts?

I suggested 'Your Visual Communicator' in view of the neutrality in the statement and your freelance status - and you can have an Eye for the corporate image. The tagline does not offend anyone and you can serve many clientele without worry. Your tag is not to see your product but yourself and your skill as a designer. designers need to communicate and he fails, then it is not good. Thanks

It should have read:

"Your tag is not to SELL your product but yourself and your skill/services as a designer...."

Apologies

The best tagline is within 3-5 words. My suggestion is ...
We're gonna move you!

In lookiing for a videographer and designer, I would search for "creative" "innovative" (mostly creative because I want something DIFFERENT)

Fresh, Creative Video, Design and Sound

Fresh, Creative Designs in Motion

Clever and Creative Designs for All Functions

Reinventing Creativity with Motion and Design

I think fresh will help you stand above others. I suggest doing some internet searches on "creative" and see how many videographers you get that way. Then try adding
"fresh" or "clever." Reinventing suggests you are redefining or changing the landscape of the industry.
