Needed: Tagline For Online Business
Posted By: SilvaFamily1995 on 12/30/2006 7:28 PM (CST) 250 Points
I have opened up an online business called Add A Little Bling. We specialize in making Baby/Children/Adult silk flower hair clips. We will also be selling other items once our website is up and running. Our speciality is that we "add a little bling" to the things we sell or we buy it that way. We need a tagline that will go directly under our business name.

Any ideas are appreciated!!! We can't have our website progress any further without our tagline...so basically we are stuck!!

Thank you for your help

Who is your target prospect? What are their profiles? I suspect that you'll find the term "bling" does NOT resonate well with them.

I'd take a look at the name of the company first, and seriously consider changing it. There are many alternatives to "bling" that might resonate better with a larger target audience.

Maybe I'm just out of it, but associating "bling" and "hairclips" seems like a stretch.

If you were to talk about your product a little more specifically here, and define your target prospects, I'm sure this group of people could help quite a bit....

To answer to Charles' question, our target market are Women and Mom's right now. I guess I did not explain our product very well. We make hair clips with silk flowers and then add Swarovski crystals (that look like diamonds - bling). We have been selling our clips for over a year and have them in 4 stores. We are finally getting a website together because of the response we have had to our clips. Nobody in our area makes anything like our hair clips in our area.

Bling is a very poplular term used when describing something with sparkle. Maybe it is just a girl thing - which is our target market.

I really appreciate your advice and comments. Thank you for responding so quickly!

Just a little more information, we are also selling "bling" pacifiers - pacifiers covered in Swarovski crystals, high end diaper bags, blankets, Tees with Swarovski crystals, etc. Most of our items are accented with the crystals - that's where we came up with Add A Little Bling.

I'm a little confused. What are you trying to accomplish with the tagline? Why do you "need a tagline that will go right under your business name?" Is it because you're afraid your business name isn't the right one or doesn't communicate your positioning very well?

Usually we like to start the creative process by understanding the objective. In this case, it isn't clear what that is. What will be different when you have a tagline? Will people suddenly find your website? Get more involved in your product line?

Try it this way: How will you know if we come up with the right tagline? What criteria will you use to evaluate the alternatives? What would the tagline have to say in order to be right for you?

I am not sure that we need a tagline at all. Our website designer asked us if we would like to use one. For about 2 weeks now we have been looking at other websites and it seems that they all have taglines. We can't proceed with our website until we make a decision.

I definately like the name of our business and I think it is perfect for what we are selling.

I am looking for a tagline that just adds a little to our name and flows well. I am not sure of what the tagline should say but it needs to go along with the our business name.

So far from the responses we liked:

For gifts that are the in thing.

This is all so new to my business partner and I. I appreciate your questions and responses.

the return of flower power..

add color to the black...

black and streaks are out...use a different colour and style...bling is in...

for women who have their hands full
a way to make their look glitzy and colorful...

bling for everything...

Add a little glitz to your life..

so even the most plain items become fashionable..

adding pizzazz to the same old jazz..

basically anything that stresses the face-lift being given to ordinary items so as to make it applicable to women in every cadre...

personally the tagline will be a good add-on to ur website and will allow a correlation to form between that and ur company's lapel...

in clothes or fashion..taglines are the true eye catchers because they're short associative prompts which even an absent minded person can refer to if they forget the name of the brand..

like Raymonds here is renown for it's suits and blazers and has a very catchy tagline of "The complete man" which they use everywhere...another way to get people to ur site/shop would be a simple ad with the tagline and the web/local shop address...

generates interest so that people visit ur site/shop...i think the tagline is optional but adds immense brand power...

the trouble may seem a lot to go through but for long-term businesses and a wider spread it helps because it improves the impact of the product.

Need not be correlated..

like L'oreal or Garnier one of them advertises a slightly higher priced cosmetic range with new features by saying "Because....you're worth it"

so i feel the tagline is a definite brand enhancer..being in a very competitive makret...

reminder: do ensure that it enhances ur brand image but doesn't take it over...people should remember ur brand..

Hi there. this is an interesting topic to me, as I have worked with Swarovski crystals; hand-making t-shirts and accessories for women for many years. I have some ideas for a tag line, and yes, I do think a tag line is a great way to get across your concept of what you are selling to the general public. Here are some of my ideas:
Add a little Bling...for the glitzy girl in all of us (I really like this one)
Add a little Bling...unique accessories for mother and child
Add a little Bling...unique embellished accessories
Add a little Bling...stand out in the crowd
Add a little Bling...we make you sparkle and shine
Add a little Bling...because we love to sparkle and shine
Add a little Bling...add a little glitz to your life

Good luck, and keep up the good work! I wish you much success, Shelley

Seems to me your website name -- Add a Little Bling -- is already the beginning of a tagline.

It only needs completion of the thought.
Such as

Title: Add a little bling
Tagline: When (something) isn't enough.

I do not have any idea about Blings (have never seen one in my life), so cannot say anything about a tagline.

But from a promotional point of view, the tagline must be small (one liner - 2 to 4 words tops, so it can be everywhere - cards, banners, letterheads etc) and differentiate your company. So a question, why would people want to buy blings? what difference does it make in their lives - fashion statement etc?

so my suggestion, why not ask some of your customers, why they are buying your products. it will give you ideas for a great tagline and at the same time, you will have a better idea of what customers want (feedback is always good)

Regards

I agree that a tag line is necessary. It helps to correlate your company and what you offer to your target market, which is, as you stated, mainly females. I would try and make your tag line more "feminine" and appealing to women.

What are some words that you like that correlate to your business? For me "shine" really stangs out. To me that is what bling is...

Add A Little Bling... And Your Life will Shine
Add A Little Bling... We Help You Shine
Add A Little Bling... The Rest will Work Itself Out
Add A Little Bling... Life's Little Treasures

We "Add A Little Bling" and you do the rest
