Fitness Center Rename
Posted By: cynthiaeichner* on 2/18/2007 12:18 PM (CST) 250 Points
We have dissolved our partnership with a gym that had a mostly male weightlifting brand . We now have an opportunity to rename our gym and introduce the gym to the community. We are located in a bedroom community where people commute to a business park located about 15 miles away. The city does not offer corporate business/commercial development outside of retail, outlet mall and county administration offices. Our membership is 50/50 male female and like our gym because it is friendly and people can come in and out quickly.

The city is a county seat and home to a school district headquarters, justice center and mostly retail. The previous name was a detractor for the women in the community - thinking it meant a "lifters gym." As part of the reopening we want to introduce expanded childcare to attract young mothers to attend classes during the day. We're looking for something catchy, simple that connotes a commitment to fitness and service and is gender neutral. Thanks for any and all help.

Apart from just a name change you will also have to look at mktg to your target group about the change of positioning. Just a name change wont help. Allocate some mktg money to communicating the same.
Sometimes you dont want to change the name because the place becomes a landmark and is easy to recognise.
So maybe you want to change your tagline to accomodate for the new TG.

However to answer your question some unisex gym names could be:

It Figures
FitnessFetish
ShapeXpress
Strides n Shapes
Family Fitness

Thanks to all that responded. Yes., we will do some marketing to announce the change. The name change was not elective - the franchise name was bought out and we didn't like the rules and guidelines of the new franchise owner.

Since everyone wants results, how about simply:

Results
"a fitness center where every body benefits"
or
"a fitness center that benefits every body"

Every Body
... fitness and results for all

Best of luck,
karen

Cynthia,
Here are some name starters - do the name spawning exercise starting with these and see what you come-up with.

- Body Image, or other "image" combinations

- Shape Up, or other "shape combinations (I think some humor would work here).

- Body Works, or other "body" combinations.

- Lifestyle Express, or other "lifestyle" combinations.

Hope this helps,
John

A few simple thoughts:

>Fit-Time, When time and fitness mean the world to you.

>FITastic, We make you look the way, you want to feel.

>Classic Fitness, Not a Trend, a Way of Life.

>Fit Right In, Where Friends Meet to Workout

>Body Style, Give us the body, we give you the style.

>Beyond The Gym, We take fitness to the next level.

Other Tags that you can mix and match

>You supply the body, we supply the health.

>Caution: Health is just a workout away. Stop in and meet our staff.

When other gyms say no, we say, YES you can.

Why would anyone work out here? Because all their friends do.

Give us 60 mins, and we give you a lifetime.

I would urge you put together an aggressive Ad Campaign to make certain all your value propositions are targeted to you key demographics. With catchy upbeat themes, clean and crisp.

A Few Promos at the key locations you mention can do a world of good to remove the current stigma and bring in new clients.

Good Luck and Happy Marketing ~

Do you have a website right now, so I can at least get a PEEK at your current identity? Do you have to start OVER, or are you seeking to pull current members from your dissolved membership?

If that's the case, are you trying to DISTANCE yourself strategically, from the former place? Are the bulk-boys going to skip over to you, or are you looking for more of a Cardio Center?

I've worked quite a bit with health clubs, including helping to launch a Norwegian exercise equipment manufacturer here back in the late 80's - I have a new fitness club launching now in the Chicago area, who you may want to touch base with--maybe there is some synergy.

Let me know!

Hi cynthiaeichner,

I like the location being in the town center near the places you mentioned and would emphasize that positioning.

I suggest
- Your Personal WorkOut Centre
- The Natural Workout
- Our Towne Gym
- The Family ShapeUp
- Fitness & Nutrition Gym
- 24/7 Choice WorkOuts (or your schedule)
- In Shape
- Losers (the word is "in" now).

Best of luck,
Kathy

FitQuest

FitQuick

"Town Name" Center or fitness center or Atheletic Center

"County Name" Center or fitness center or Atheletic Center IE Desoto Athletic Center = "DAC"

Community Fitness Center (CFC)

Come for lunch and visit our atheletic director Mr Jim Nasium. (Get it gymnasium..lol)

Since you mentioned the business park, you should consider developing an "associate memebrship" program where business people can come in during certain off peak hours to work out - IE Before 8:00AM, 1-5 - their rate may be half what a regular membership is... Call it your "Execrise Express" or "Express Execrise program"

Get in and get out
