Need Tagline For New Business
Posted By: bjp* on 2/26/2007 12:33 PM (CST) 250 Points
We are launching a new business Terra Guild to help companies with environmentally-friendly products or technologies in the high tech, building, and energy industries penetrate international markets. Our initial focus is to help small to midsize ($1m - $500m)European companies penetrate the US and US companies penetrate Europe. Eventually, we will expand into Asia and Latin America.

For companies to go international the risks and failure rates are high because: 1) the market isn't ready or is too competitive; 2) lack of comprehensive market entry strategy; 3) lack of experience in the foreign market.

Our differentiators are:
1) We understand the local market (e.g.., US and Europe initially)
2) We help connect all the dots (e.g., create a comprehensive market entry road map) necessary to minimize risk and increase likelihood of success
3) We are more than a consulting company since we will share the risk and help set up the organizational infrastructure (e.g., sales and distribution network or subsidiary, partner organization)
4) We have comprehensive skills: brand/marketing/sales management, import/export, start-up, organization design, new product development, strategy, research, intellectual property/legal, funding help. Have launched products internationally.
5) We offer a one-stop shop from assessing market readiness, to ensuring product is developed with foreign markets in mind, to developing and implementing a market entry plan, to finding partners (funding sources) to managing the entry.
6) We are familiar with the challenges in bringing eco-friendly products to market in the US and Europe

We've tried a few tag lines, but nothing meets the criteria of a good tag line (e.g., differentiates, highlights positioning, memorable, etc.). They have been:

- Innovation and commercialization of clean technologies
- US market entry representatives for clean technologies
- Minimizing risk and increasing success - Market entry for clean technologies
- Connecting the dots - Successful Market Entry

The tag line needs to stay basic and clear enough since we are considering translating the phrase into several languages.

We appreciate any thoughts or help.

Bernard: I will certainly work on tagline, but more importantly...I believe that we may have the opportunity to develop a working relationship. One of my clients may have an interest in your direction, and may wish to discuss an association with your group.

Please contact me at your ealiest convenience to initiate relationship discussion. My contact information may be obtained by clicking on W.M.M.A. (above).

Thank you for your comments so far.

One of my concerns is that "green" may turn into a fad or get over-hyped and so I don't want to use too much of the "green," "natural," "environmental" language. We are passionate about eco-friendly and that is our focus, but we help bring these technologies and products into the mainstream by cutting through the hype and employing good/sound business practices to ensure companies are successful when they enter a new market.

BJP,

Some ideas . . .

We make it easy to be green. Or vert. Or verde. Or grun.

(kind of playing off the song 'it's not easy being green' but to bring in the international angle with the word 'green' in other languages).

OR

You're ready to go global. We'll make sure the globe is ready for you.

OR

It's hard to save the planet if the planet doesn't know who you are.

FYI: I have a patented product made from corn stalks (renewable resource) that is designed to absorb incidental spills from oils (i.e. motor oil, machine oil, cooking oil), coolants and other lubricants. It will be launched in the retail sector next month and hopefully in the industrial sector within 6 months.

I appreciate your sensitivity, but thanks to things like the Green Building Council, etc., I think green has already survived past "fad-dom." It remains a question as to what premium if any people in a given market situation will PAY for it...but its inherent value is no longer in question, in my opinion.

Here are a few thoughts:

We know the landscape--for businesses that help protect it.

Making foreign lands less foreign for your green business.

Providing a friendly environment for environmentally friendly businesses. (Maybe a bit too cute, but I couldn't resist.)

Critical mass for environmentally-critical technologies.

Business-smart assistance for environmentally-smart companies/products.

My colleagues have provided some great thoughts and creativity above:

let me offer a few thoughts,

I would use your name as a Branding strategy and then develop a terminology to enhance your Brand Vision, and then use a simple tag (that allows language translation)

Terra Guild's Ecometrics Puts you in Control

Terra Guild, EcoGreen Building Controls

Terra Guild EcoTech, environment, data and control

Terra Guild EcoData, partnered for the environment and you.

Terra Guild EcoSource, products you can trust

Terra Guild, EcoCharge Our Building Information Put You in Charge

Hope this spurs some thoughts.

Good Luck & Happy Marketing

I agree that the word "green" is here to stay. I also think "eco" is a good short description. Because your name is pretty creative and doesn't describe what you do, I think you might benefit from a tagline that clearly indicates the benefits of your services.

Terra Guild
Market entry + lasting success for eco-businesses.

After reading the above contributions, I am hesitant to add my own 'off the cuff' thoughts. However, I couldn't resist a little play with words! Well done to all the other contributors for such outstanding creativity.

Thank you all for your wonderful ideas and very creative input. What ended up swaying my opinion was that since our company name is not descriptive of what we do I wanted to make sure the tagline was clear in terms of the market entry work we will do. Thanks again.
