Name & Tagline For A Business Resort
Posted By: Jane on 3/11/2007 12:32 AM (CST) 500 Points
Right. My dilemma is in the title itself. Looking for a name & tagline for an upcoming boutique hotel in India. It's being positioned to attract tourists from over seas (given its location - sea side, heritage city etc) as well as local business folks for the use of their Conference Halls, Business Centres etc. Yet another focus would be health/medical tourism - the latest fad in India. The owner goes by the name KILLIAN and would ideally like this to be part of the name.

To provide more insight:

VISION

To be among the top 10 preferred hosts in the country for tourists and business visitors.

MISSION

We will exceed international standards of operations, in quality and in service, by leveraging traditional Indian values and practices.

Thanks & look forward to your suggestions.
Jane

Hi Jane,
Please tell me about the area (urban, exurb, remote, tourist, green, etc.). Also, what attractions are nearby that would entice visitors. A majority of resorts identify the area &/or attraction in their names. "Pheasant Run"
"Emerald Valley", "Fox Glen" etc.
Thanks,
MajorHal

etc...Would be interested names like these kind?
It would be quite interesting...i think

Name has to be very Universal, as you have mentioned its also to promote international tourism. What kind of look and feel you finally intend to give :

Classic, Heritage, youthful, classy, peppy...so we can be more creative while suggesting names for your resort...

Thank you Folks... let me just quickly add my thoughts on some of the above: dont really want resort as part of the name, as it denotes more of a holiday place. Kingdom is being used by a huge shopping mall just set up, so that is out. The client is not too keen on using the hotel tag either... Palak, yes I'm aware of Ginger (Taj Group) but this is a start up... The place would be classy more to blend in with the heritage feel rather than peppy, youthful etc..

Your responses are very good, and, I know for most of us, the first shot is the best, but I'd definitely like to get a few more...

Thanks again,
Jane

Jane,

Two names that might work are perhaps obvious, but no one has yet mentioned them:

The Killian Centre

Killian House

And one that gets away from the obvious:
Centrepoint by Killian

Hope that helps,
Matt

Hi Jane Thanks for the info.

Kerala (south of India) known by Gods own country,.
Its a place where you submerge yourself in water,
feel the atmosphere with greenery, its a place of complete reunion with exotic nature. Kochi is a beautiful place. Its a tourist spot by itself.

Will you offer job opportunities for locals who live
around your complex...Keralites are the most literate of lots. Just a thought!

My insights goes this way...
Firstly names for the owner (separate)
Then set of Names of the Business Resort
Lastly the set of Taglines

These can be treated as ideas as well:

Killian Friendly Escort
Killian Business Associates
Killians Culture Centre
Killian Palace
Killian Era
Killian Park
By Killian Group
By Killian Legacy
By Killian Estate
By Killian Grandeur

Name
Venture one
Treasure hunt
Heritage Plaza
Jewel by the bay

Tagline:
Celebrating the taste of tradition
Celebration of the human spirit
Talk - surf- relive.
Formal (or informal)get-together
Image. Explore and entice
Green living, fine hide-out.
Re-treat yourself
cordial invitation
Family and work at the same time.
Your enterprising partner
International Hide-out(fascination for the word)

Leaving space for more to come from colleagues!

Good wishes
Palak

Thinking about this more, I wanted to add these thoughts. Since you want to use the name Killian, I think something very simple with "Killian" is in order. The name itself is easy to remember and spell (for English-speaking people any way; I can't speak for others) and you won't have to worry about competing with hotels with similar names. If they ever open other hotels, the name can be repeated.

So, I still like the two names that I suggested above, and I like some of the simpler ones that others have suggested (e.g., The Killian). I think "Killian Inn" is a little hard to pronounce, but here's another alternative that's simple, descriptive and memorable:

Killian Seaside Inn

If I were looking for a place to stay at an international destination, that name would appeal to me. You've also been given some good taglines that would work well.

Best of luck.

Good Morning Jane,

As a frequent business traveler, I've seen many a hotel (and hotel name) in my time. One thing I've noticed is that many of the major players have kept it simple and have gone with a one-word name. As they expanded, they had that flexibility to adapt by tagging on the locale, continuing to build upon the brand name equity. So here are a few of my suggestions:

1) Killian (K is such a strong and powerful letter of the alphabet; words starting w/K can carry themselves.)
2) Killian Kochi (Kochi can be in a different font or supertitled in a different font)
3) Killian International
4) Killian International Kochi (same as #2 above)

Tag line could be:
"India's top elegant accommodations for business, pleasure and exploring our rich, historical treasures."

Killian's Island

I agree with those above, keep it simple & memorable one or two words.

Killian
The Killian
Grand Killian

With the simple Killian you can follow with multiple tags

Killian - Relax, Recoup, Rest, Recover, Recreation (whatever the 3 r's are.)

Killian - Business Conference Center

Killian - Rest with the Best

Killian - Medical Recovery Center & Health Salon

Good Luck, If the venture is Truly Extraordinary over time the word "Killian" will be synonymous with "Excellence" then you'll know you are there!

Hi Jane:

From around the area, and being in the branding biz for long, some of the suggestions above basically sums up the best strategies on Travel & Tourism industry branding. And the nomenclatures, the formation et al. put forward by my fellow pros are in a level where they can put huge billings to your clients. And in terms of simplicity and approach, Y Lo has come pretty close to a stronger branding, not that others aren't...my perspective.

The K word being mandatory, and since the facility is more for the western tourist,...try bring in the old world charm of Kochi, the reason why they are visiting the place. Being a local, I know how my preference change, once I know that the tasty westerner is chosing the facility over others. My migration to the facility will be natural. So here's my 2 paisa...

The Cochin Killian - Your Colonial Escapade
- Globe's finest by the Arabian Sea
- Global Leisure. In God's own Country
- Global Class. In God's own Country
-
The name spells class, brings in all the components that are mandatory, and bring in the warmth like a Paris Hilton. Location and what it provides is direct. Based on the colonial theme, you can bring in the modern facilities (a similiar treatment has been done on the brand taj malabar, if I am not mistaken)

Your ad/emailing/outdoor campaign can talk of travel to cochin/health tourism/conference at The Cochin Killian as the situation demands.

If you think that the direction is fine, and need any support, you can contact me personally for any focused activity/strategies. I have a dedicated facility in Bangalore, South India.
