Women Only Fitness Facility
Posted By: wwbriggs* on 3/23/2007 12:52 PM (CST) 450 Points
I would like to explore names for a woman's only fitness center... not a curves.. more in tune with my target audience which is a lot of mothers and women ages 25-40.

The concept is to allow the woman to better utilize their time by taking time for themselves while making time for their kids. You can come in and drop your kid(s) off at our 2 hour child care, or enroll them in a class of their own. Children's classes are 45 mins, therefore, a mother could sign-in, drop her child off for class, and get a 30 minute cardio and circuit workout in for herself before picking the kids back up again.

My moms are too busy running the kids from one activity to another and looking after the family to have time form themselves. Time is a critical factor.

I want the name and tagline to connect with them.

This is a woman's only area in a family center. We offer parent programs, children's programs, and programs for parent/child.

Oh, and did I say, "it's FUN!"... we are all about the FUN and making fitness FUN.

Our other tags is:

Where kids play and get fit and families get healthier together (SM)

Trying to fit several active lives into one time frame is an excellent goal.

Suggest HourGlass for the time and shape concept also known as SandGlass by some. Great Logo potential also.

You could also work with the glass half empty versus half full concept with this idea too

"Hourglass understands YourGlass is half .....

Thank you everyone. Good commments.

I like the combination of time and results that some of you have eluded to. The mom's shouldn’t feel restricted by what they can do to enjoy themselves.

The parents (moms) bring their children because they believe it is a healthy alternative and good for their kids and we want them to use the facility and time for themselves because of how they imagine our services will make them feel and help make their family healthier.

So something that lends itself more towards you don't have to compromise, go ahead and take 30 minutes for yourself and get the results you want, while we work with the kids and have fun getting the results you want for them." Too wordy

Stay away from "we watch the kids." We don't want an image of a daycare. We must remain perceived as a fun and entertaining fitness alternative for the kids.

Gr8 responses above.

As your target market contains both mothers and single females, hence it need to have a name that does not put off any of the category so.... i suggest

Eve's Nest
Active Eve

As Eve was the first know most beautiful woman and mother of all mankind ;)

Hope u kinda like it.

And i personally think this one is the best

R E C L A I M

For mom's it means:

Reclaim ur beauty, reclaim ur life, reclaim ur self, reclaim you curves ETC...

For Single womans it means

Reclaim ur teens, reclaim ur moves (you can have arobic classes), Reclaim ur Self (suit both the target audiences)

I think that is enough i shall stop here. All the best with ur Business.

Hi wwbriggs,

So far, I like "Hourglass" the best. It's feminine without saying "mom" (because you shouldn't make childless women feel excluded), and it does go with the concept of time. Logo could be like that ad for milk, where the woman's body is an hourglass-shaped milk glass, only for your purposes, it would actually be an hourglass. Putting it together with a tag, you could say:

Hourglass Fitness Center
... where women have time to save their figures

... take time for yourself & your figure

... time to feel good about yourself again

... 30 minutes to a great shape

or other name/tag ideas:

MyTime
or
MyPlace
or
The MyTime Place
... women's workout space
... have fun getting fit
... the fast & fun way to get fit
... 30 minutes of fun & fitness

XHerCise Area
... the busy woman's workout place
... 30 minutes a day keeps the fat away

Cinderella Place
... where fun & fitness live happily ever after
... reclaim your "once upon a time" figure

W, the Workout Place for Women
... time to do something for yourself for a change
... do wonders for yourself in 30 minutes

OK, I'm out of ideas for now! Good Luck!

What you need is a proper brand name, not a generic description of what your club is as your name. Powerful brands are built by owning a category in the mind. But having a generic word makes that difficult and leaves you vulernable to competition.

Look at some of the successful brands in the kid/mom cateogy. (I have two boys 2 & 5) So in addition to being a marketing strategist, I am one of the busy Mom's your brand is targeting.

Monkey Joes: Inflatable fun center
Gymboree: kid's gynastics
Cashe: sexy clothes
Starbucks: european style coffee shop
Chucky Cheese: games and pizza
Curves: women's only fitness

Some brands that have succeed, but would have been stronger if they had a proper name instead of the generic.

The Music Class
Build-A-Bear
The Little Gym

Finding the right brand name is going to be difficult, but will be worth it. A successful company starts with finding the right name.

You have a great concept that could be the first in a new cateogy.

But most heath clubs do offer child care, why would I go to your club when I could just go to LA Fitness and leave my child there? I assume because your club would also offer exercise for my child instead of sitting them in front of a TV. That needs to be clear in your positioning statement.

I also want to invite you to the Book Club discussion page, where we are talking about my book The Origin of Brands.

http://www.marketingprofs.com/ea/qst_category.asp?catID=29

I'm happy to have a look at some of the brand names you come up with and give you feedback.

Hourglass is great. It is simple & unique.

But it sounds too much like Curves.

How about Oasis. Something that gives the thought of getting away from it all, we take care it for you while you take care of yur health or yourself. I just got back from my lunch time workout and thats what I think about. I just stepped away from it all. And I am female.

*woman's only fitness center...
*not a curve shop: in tune with TG of mothers and women ages 25-40.
*concept is to allow woman to better utilize their time by taking time for themselves while making time for their kids: My moms are too busy running the kids from one activity to another and looking after the family to have time form themselves. Time is a critical factor.

***I want the name and tagline to connect with them.

If I take all of the above together, definitely she is a supermom, but then the word could be so overused by the media, your brand may not get enough exclusivity...though the name will be known by more ppl than you can count. And the hourglass, is something that you are not interested in - since being in the curve route.

This bring my attention to Mr. rathore's route: and take 2 steps ahead of that with the help of Laura's idea (because your club would also offer exercise for my child instead of sitting them in front of a TV. That needs to be clear in your positioning statement)...a name that is unique, that means what ur brand stands for and simple enough to pronounce...and a positioning line that bring it all together. It also is an URGE, a call for action!

ActEve: Family. Activity. Fitness.

'ActEve Center' etc. also could be considered with.

Hope it helps.

KUDOS
