New Company Name
Posted By: Gretz on 3/27/2007 6:15 PM (CST) 250 Points
We are an existing company that is looking to incorporate. We are in the business of providing DJ Services (disc jockey).

Our current name is Custom Sound. Upon trying to incorporate we were unable to secure this name without adding something before Custom Sound. I.E. _____ Custom Sound.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks for your time.

Since you only need this for incorporation purposes, you can minimize the part before Custom Sound. Consider having just an initial or catchy letters or numbers.

A1 Custom Sound
1-2 Custom Sound
13.1 Custom Sound (takeoff on 5.1, 6.1 surround sound)
Beats Custom Sound
BPM Custom Sound
Aural Delights Custom Sound
Groove Custom Sound
Hitz Custom Sound
Z Custom Sound (zee custom sound!)
Spin Custom Sound
Trax Custom Sound
Kick Custom Sound
Kix Custom Sound

Good luck,

Thanks everyone for the suggestions so far.

The one name that we are considering is : X-treme Custom Sound Inc.

Please let me know your thoughts on this and any other suggestions you may have.

I like it... Maybe you could have this tagline then:

X-treme Custom Sound
X-perience sound to the X-treme!

Hi Kevin,

I also like X-treme Custom Sound. The only thing I'd caution against is that it might be hard for people to find you. They might be looking for "extreme." Using the X is good for branding (makes you look more hip), but puts you at the end of the alphabet.

So depending on how you market yourself, that may or may not matter. For alternate suggestions, you could use "Extreme" or you could put your name(s) in front of Custom Sound or X-treme Custom Sound. It seems like people are more likely to remember a DJ's name than a company name, and I'd bet a lot of your business comes through referrals, doesn't it?

Good luck,
karen

Hi, Kevin-

I think Karen makes a great point about the use of the word "extreme." Also remember that it's a trendy word and you might not think it's as cool 5 years from now.

I have another concern, and that's about the use of "Custom Sound." Have you tested that at all to see what potential customers think "Custom Sound" means? I wonder if some would picture a musical instrument store, or a firm that provides backup band members, or an electronics store? If you do use "___ Custom Sound" I would strongly recommend a good tag line like "DJ services in tune with your style." You could adjust the tag line according to the musical genre that suits your target customers.

Ditto a lot of the above.

I like Xtreme too. I also like F/X ie custom sound fx or fx custom sound...

When new customers want to find your service where will they start to look - that is the word I would suggest.

IE if most of your business comes from weddings, I'd use Wedding Custom Sound or Bridal Custom sound.

If it is parties, you could consider Celebration(s) custom Sound.

If they find you as a DJ service, then use as mentioned above DJ custom Sound you could also have a handle as "DJ-CS"..

Good Luck - see my profile to email

Xtreme is au courant right now but when Xtreme sports etc dies down, this will seem dated. You want to choose a name that will at least take you through a generation of potential customers. prhyatt's point is important.

Good luck,

hey there,
the first thing that appear in my mind was you are dealing with cars speaker, amp or something like that.
Custom Sound for a dj services?
i wouldnt know unless i see you company profile, webpage for example...

have you ever think of changing the company name itself, and have a tagline with 'custom sound' in it. by doing this, your current client will know that it is still the old custom sound, and you may have a fresh appeal to new target.

for my opinion, a company name doesnt have to be link with the business you are doing, coz your logo will have a bigger impact to it. if i would to ask u,
'do u know what pepsi is?'
u wouldnt know its a cola drink because pepsi doesnt even have a link to cola...

hope this will help...
all the best.

Hi Kevin

Having read through all the posts and excellent suggestions.....I think Xperience Custom Sound Inc calls the reader to 'action' although I agree about the complexity of search engines finding it.....but if you spread enough links it should be no problem.

I know this may sound overly simple

But possibly

The Custom Sound

Indicating the only, the first, the original, the one you want

A lot of good advice so far.

I agree that Custom Sound doesn't suggest much about your service so a strong tagline is essential. Since you are going to incorporate why not consider changing your name at this time, as suggested by others. For instance.

DJ Central
Customs sounds to suit every gig

Keep your mind open to all the ideas that have been posted ... and don't be surprised if the best idea comes after you've considered the merits of 100. Accept the first 'good' idea and you may well miss the 'best' idea.

Good luck

I like X-treme Custom Sound, but it does not make me think of DJ-ing.

How about something that gives the impression of portability or that infers movement (I assume you take your biz on the road, right?):

MOBILE CUSTOM SOUND
MOVEABLE CUSTOM SOUND
TRANSFER CUSTOM SOUND

Another suggestion would be some play on words having to do with the idea of turntables, like:

SPIN CUSTOM SOUND

Just an idea.
