Ideas For Naming Of Re-launch Of New Release Of Practice Management Software?
Posted By: christina_cussimanio* on 6/29/2004 6:19 PM (CST) 250 Points
A billing software product that has been around for 20+ years has a new face, we want to have a new release to go hand in hand with our new brand that makes sense to the market.

Can you provide more details about the function of the software? What is it's current name? Why are you changing the name if it has been around for 20+ years?

More details will result in better answers.

thank You!

The product has been around for 25 years however, last year we went through a re-brand of our product lines which has been successful. The product is billing software for the group practice healthcare market 10 to 200 physicians. Because the product has been around a long time, it has proven success but also has a stigma surrounding "old technology" we are at a point with the next release where we have overhauled the entire application with a new UI which supports our customers workflow, and have an opportunity to make a splash with a new name. We are on V. 12.8 so the next version would be 13.0 (bad - sounds old) So the next version needs some marketing to create excitement.

If you don't need to keep it a secret, could you give us your web site, so we could take a look at what your currently doing? You need to leverage your reputation to create a new identity. Without knowing who you are now, we would probably be giving you a lot of inappropriate suggestions.

So are you in competition with Medic or Medical Manager? Or are you Medic?

I have experience in both, and I must say, they are very archaic for advanced software. Only until recent Windows apps in the Medic programs for paperless clinics (Autochart), the programs looked like old "Atari" games and cheap Apple programs.

Let me put my thinking cap on and I will post some names for you...

www.idx.com - Groupcast product line. We have developed the capability to integrate our eCommerce Services - payer gateway into our core applications resulting in streamlined revenue cycle management. Between the new UI, our proven success through our large customer base, and our ability to provide integrated revenue cycle management tools, we stand apart from the competition. I would like us to re-launch this product line with something that makes sense based on all of this.

Your company seems to be stuck on all your product names ending in 'cast'. If this isn't the case, how about morphing your product to Groupweb? That gives it a new image while retaining your existing reputation. Also, I would release your new version as Groupweb 2.1. No one wants to buy version 1, and 2.1 indicates that this is a more mature product.

If you are limited by the "end in cast" situation, its going to be hard to create much of a fresh image for your product line.

The overall brand of Groupcast will remain, it is more about the next version of the product name Groupcast 2.0 or we use a name instead but also being able to justify why we are going from 12.8 to the new 2.0 and creating the positioning and message around a new beginning.

Well if you're not going to change the name, its going to be difficult, if not impossible, to position this as a "new" product. I guess you could do something like Groupcast Enhanced 2.1. This would move people's perception a little toward your having a "better" product, but I really think you need complete new name.

Christina,

Here's a few questions for your consideration:
What's the CLIENT's perception of the current product?
What's management's goals for the nextgen product?
What's the market's perception of the product?

That said, based on the limitations you've given, it appears that you're limited to attaching some kind of "extra", as Vevolution indicated, to the product.

Groupcast-X
Groupcast Simplix
e-Groupcast
Groupcast-eComm

Further, I'd come up with a positioning slogan to help differentiate the product, such as:

"Groupcast-X: The performance, maturity, and stability you've always liked, with a pretty new face you'll love."

Century Groupcast
Groupcast 2000
Groupcast Nouveau
Groupcast Extreme

Rebranding is good, since it can gazz up the promise, the expectations, and generate excitement.
