Which Online Media Discuss B2b Marketing?

Posted By: Hans De Keulenaer on 11/18/2007 at 7:15 AM 125 Points
Which are the web communities (in addition to MarketingProfs) where you can ask questions and have online discussions related to business marketing?

* An internet search yields the link b2bhub.org, which appears promising. Unfortunately, activity level appears very low.
* Facebook, Orkut and Xing all have marketing discussion groups. But most do not cover business marketing, or target professionals.
* The closest I can find to match the needs for the business marketing professional is LinkedIn Answers.

There are not a ton of good options, but here are a couple:

http://forums.digitalpoint.com - good for online/SEO topics
http://www.sphinn.com - like Digg, but for SEO topics
http://links.hubspot.com - again, like DIgg, but for marketing

And if you count blogs as a way to ask questions and discuss:

http://www.adage.com/power150 - list of some top marketing blogs

http://blog.hubspot.com - Some decent commenting activity on the HubSpot Marketing Blog couple thousand subscribers

Just out of curiosity, have you found MarketingProfs to be inadequate in some way? It seems to me that there are plenty of B2B folks here, and they generally are quite helpful.

What is it you think MarketingProfs could improve that makes you ask about alternatives?

This isn't really a defensive response. I'm just curious to know what sparked your question.

Michael: You answer my question with a good question. I guess it's a matter of focus. Marketing is a vast subject, and business marketing a small niche within it, probably covering 5-10% of professional marketeers. Still this means many 1000s of individuals.

I'm getting acquainted with MarketingProfs, and am impressed how well managed it is.

Another way to ask the question is whether business marketing needs its own community, or whether MarketingProfs is/can be that community, at global level? A positive outcome of this discussion would be a very fortunate conclusion.

I'll give some more thought whether the various forums of MarketingProfs cover business marketing comprehensively.

You may also want to try the American Marketing Association - they have special interest groups (SIGs) that may have additional relevance to your questions.

Also, if you post your specific questions in one of the relevant forums here, you'll probably find experts that have experience in B2B marketing that can offer some insight.

Good luck,
Joy
