What Would You Include In A Branding Basics Workshop Content?
Posted By: solasalako555* on 7/8/2004 3:43 PM (CST) 125 Points
I need to know if I am on course here. I am Lead facilitator for a Branding Basics Workshop in a week from now. The concept of Branding is still very much at incubation stage in Nigeria where I work as a Branding and Consumer Marketing Consultant.

To take advantage of the gaping need for some real branding information, I am collaborating with a foremost consulting company to run a 3 day open course in branding for middle level managers, product development functions, product managers and entrepreneurs.

The idea is to pass on basics of branding from development to management stages. I however would like the workshop to be as practical and interactive as possible (most courses available are tedious, academic and surreal to the average marketing professional. I sould know cos I have attended a few myself!)

Can you help me out with what such a course should cover? How can I make it as practicable as possible? and fun too! where can I source quizzes, games, case studies and role plays to keep my class of 30 participants stimulated till the last day?

the course title is BRANDING A-Z:Global Principles...Local successes. We have a few major brand managers in Nigeria as speakers on strategy development, positioning, research and marketing communications. I just would like to know that we have covered the basic global principles of branding. Can anyone share some with me?
thank you.

solas,

Here's a comprehensive marketing link:
http://business.tafe.vu.edu.au/docushare/dsweb/GetRendition/Document-53794/...

That will help you with SOME of your needs.

In Branding, the real components of a workshop should deal with:

Perception: How the body takes in stimuli, how it processes it for recognition and future retrieval, and how those precesses are impacted by brand communications.

Branding really deals with the core elements of:
Color
Typography
Graphic Elements
Taglines
and how their combination establishes a reaction in your body and psyche.

REMEMBER: you can't OWN the color green, but in the right bottle SHAPE, the color green "BRINGS YOU TO IDENTITY" of the Perrier brand family.

Bringing You To Identity is my catch-phrase for the reaction you have when exposed to the brand stimulus in the marketplace.

Branding is ALL of the topics that deal with stimuli and reactions to stimuli in a real-world environment.

It also deals with:
Core Proposition: What makes this product COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from comeptitors?

Brand Personality: the brand as desribed as a human being. What kind of person are we talking about?

Visual Brand Equities: What parts of the brand identity make the consumer take action? Is it the cursive nature of the Coca-Cola logo and its color scheme? Yes, because if you ISOLATE just a portion of the logo, you STILL know it Coca-Cola.

I hope this helps. If not, get in touch.

Best,

::JBtron

I would think that you would want to include a lesson on classical conditioning......

Think Pavlov and his dogs.....

He "branded" in their minds the connection between the bell and the meat paste.....

Branding, at least on some level, is nothing more than classical conditioning in that you want to "brand" in the minds of consumer and internal response when they hear, see your company and/or product......

hope this helps.....

Hi,
The best thing you can do is to read our excellent set of articles by Debbie MacInnis on our site. There is no better person I know of who can clarify what you want to know about branding.

Solas, the site Allen is referring to is MarketingProfs! Use the Search box at the top of this page to input the keyword "branding," and you should find the articles he mentions.

I didn't know if his response was clear or not...
