What's Your Personal Usp?
Posted By: deji8 on 7/13/2004 7:39 PM (CST) 250 Points
I am carrying out research for the most common words people use to describe themselves when trying to sell themselves.

C'mon then.........

What's your personal USP?

Tell me what is your Unique Selling Proposition - the one special thing about you, that u feel makes u stand out from the competition. - in no more than 50 words.

Remember this is not a Business's USP, but ur personal USP.

I don't have a USP made up, so this could be an interesting question thread to follow.

I do have a 'career statement' from a few years ago when I was last job hunting. It is:

I am the key guy who brings all the parts together to make sure the company is making money.
I am a product and marketing manager who while posted in Korea made changes to the marketing and products in Asia that helped more than double its sales and be the one region to beat its sales plan.
My expertise is in managing products marketed to businesses in order to maximize profits.
I have the unique ability to translate technology-based features into benefits that non-technical customers understand and value.
I have 4 years experience in product management, along with an MBA and 6 years experience in other marketing and technical positions.

Not sure if that helps.

Faster than a speeding bullet . . .

More powerful than a locomotive . . .

Able to leap tall buildings with a single bound!

Whoops, wait a minute that's Superman's USP.

Let's see, through years of practice in the field I have mastered the art of yawning in a meeting without anyone knowing! Also, I can immediately respond with very solid sounding answers that are woven out of thin air! Bet you wouldn't guess I spent a lot of time deep in the bowels of the high-end corporate world.

I'm a one person telemarketing shop - the person making your calls has 20+ years sales & marketing experience, plus thousands of personal contacts. This works well if your image is important, you have technical products, you sell to high level decision makers, or you need good market feedback. See www.persist.biz

I help you get more power from your business writing ... by doing it for you, editing your work, coaching and teaching you how to do it, or any combination thereof.

(And I'm not bad either, Gavin. Nor am I English, come to that.)

A big thanks to everyone who took time out to answer this question. Really appreciate the effort.
At the moment, the word in the lead is 'practical'.
Although in this entire thread it only comes up once :)

I'll keep the thread open for a bit longer, at the end of it i'll put the top ten words up.

Thanks once again.

This is simply too much fun. I am answering a survey instead of writing one ........

My USP:

...providing unique perspectives balancing logical, analytical AND creative insight/experience to coach professionals on positioning and branding issues.

Or if I had more coffee I might just say:
accessible, ethical, analytical, & dynamic.. over 10 years experience in creative solutions to traditional challenges…

Or maybe I should just go to bed now. this is getting pretty bad :(

My personal USP used to be: I smoke to look cool, drink for effect, work to get money to do stuff, and get things."

But I've since given up smoking, so that's out.

On my Personal calling card, I've printed the USP: Darcy Moen, since 1965.

On my joke consulting card, I have a wonderful picture of a fellow with his head up his butt (the wonders of photoshop never cease!) and his neck tie hanging down between his spread legs. I've printed the headline over the image "If this looks like anyone you know, please introduce me". Under the services offered, I've listed, "Lessons on how to find your own ass with both hands, at high noon", "Heads extracted at reasonable rates",and "Butts saved, or your money back".

On my dry cleaning company card, I had my "owners" USP "If you care about clothing as much as I care about dry cleaning, we should talk".

Hope this helps, or at least entertains.

Darcy (Customer Loyalty Network) - ask me how to get everything you can out of the customers you've got (borrowed from Jay Abraham without permission)
