How Do I Promote A Baby And Children's Expo ?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I'll be working on publicity for a baby and children's expo, wanting to attract a big audience to a large venue. We'll have vendors, sponsors and activities galore, but I'm looking for that special 'hook' to attract attention.

Special hook you say … naturally the communications target is adults, primarily parents with a good portion of about-to-be-parents and a few grandparents and caregivers??

    a few directions:

    - baby naming game or contest
    - photography display of adult/child prints – famous by celebrity or by photographer
    - famous photographer at expo to shoot pictures with children
    - celebrity, even minor regional sports etc. celebrities, with their children
    - children clothing show (not fashion, risky)
    - children’s toys then and now, or children’s races with tricycles and small cars
    - children’s Olympics (all fun, the real games are next month)

just a few thoughts, hope it sparks more ideas,

What about constructing some LIFE-SIZE board games? CandyLand, Hi-Ho Cherry-O, MouseTrap... the vibrant kind that young kids love AND that has nostalgic value that their parents will soak up. You can actually use them for playing (maybe even with celebrities). And think of the photo opportunities!

Heck, even *I* might go to see something like that... and my six-year-old would certainly be gobsmacked!

    For promotion:
Get some brochures to schools & daycare facilities, church groups, playgrounds, lamaze classes, etc.. Get a Press Release written up and contact your local media.

    For activities at the Expo:
I agree with the celebrities, magicians, and enter-to-win contests. Other ideas: What I really love are those children's museums where children of all ages can actually touch EVERYTHING for once. The Miami Children's Museum is one of them (https://www.miamichildrensmuseum.org/). Take a look at their website for the feel of that kind of environment. You could even contact them for ideas. For example, they are going to have a "Young Art Exhibition"...you could use that idea and turn it into a contest (the child will win one of your vendor's prizes).

    Where will this expo be?
