Name For Wedding Planning Business - Help!

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I'm beginning to brainstorm names for a wedding planning business I'm setting up. I want to be unique, fresh, and not cliche. Typical names for similar businesses in my area are "Details Weddings" "Dream Weddings" "A Brides Best Friend" "Creative Source" "Creative Weddings" "Bliss Weddings"....you get the point. I am not the cheesey, traditional wedding planning type so I want to sound different.

I'd like to do something bird-themed, as I have a really great idea for a logo and it really conveys my personality and my services (cute...light...friendly). I also have a great idea for a tagline - "For weddings your guests will be chirping about"

Any ideas? The only things I've come up with are:

Fine Feathered Weddings
Early Bird Weddings

My angle on my business is that I don't do "over-the-top" weddings, I'm really more for regular brides who have realistic budgets, not just million-dollar brides.

Any ideas? Thanks a bunch!

    Jlc and Dag,

I don't think I'll recommend "Weddings on the Cheep!"

I like the idea of planning weddings for those who don't have lots of money. Your challenge is to sound like the expensive companies and yet be cost-effective.

It sounds like you've got your mind made up on the bird thing - don't know if that does much for me. I know some people are turned off by birds and might not appreciate that concept and the "chirping" about doesn't trip my trigger.

Are you going to plan only weddings, or will you do other events as well?

    Later.

Thanks for the responses so far! I'm not 100% set on the bird thing, I like it, but if it gets negative responses I'm fine with ditching it. I just want something that is unique and will make me easy to remember.

My plan is to only do weddings and wedding-related events (bridal showers, rehearsal dinners).

As the owner of the Bliss Weddings you are referring to (I know this based on the local competitors you mentioned), I thought I would caution you against making unfounded assumptions (“cheesey, traditional wedding planning type”) about businesses on a public forum. You never know who may be reading your posts.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend - all I was trying to say was that I wanted to sound different, out of the box, non-traditional.

Sorry, I don't like either of your bird name ideas or the tag line-. You can come back to it but start with the basics: if someone heard the name ONE TIME will they remember it 10 minutes later? the next day?
Your name can't be too generic or no one will remember it.
You need a name that you can also get the domain for, without reverting to .net or some other configuration.
Before picking a name, I'd write the entire marketing plan. What's your unique selling proposition? In one sentence what is your business about? When you lay out all the facts about your business and your customers it will be easier to come up with a name. I frequently refer to www.uspto.gov and easydns.com ( I don't buy domains there) for first brush research on name availability.

We don't know your city or what the competition is like. "your city- wedding planners ie "Rochester Wedding Planners" could be a great name. In fact, it could make you look like the leader in your area. your name-wedding planners ie Austin Wedding Planners could also work if you have an unusual name. In a crowded market, your own name may be more memorable than something generic. The longer the name, the more forgettable. If you live in the northeast, there is massive weddings in the summer months, but the winter is much slower. In that case, YOUR NAME EVENTS could be a better choice depending on where you want to take your company.

Finally, I'll share this story of an old marketing client. original company name- Advantage Services of South Florida. You get where they are and they provide some service but who wants to say that mouthful? Basically they'd answer the phone Advantage Services because it was too long (there was another local company with the name Advantage Services which is why they didn't pick that name but imagine the confusion). Can you hear yourself answering the phone Fine Feathered Weddings all day? I changed the above company name to Advantage-X. It let them keep part of their 8 year history with a similar name, they sell Xerox products so the X was a play on that, everyone can say it quickly etc.
In summary, I think you should look hard at a memorable one or two syllable first word to add to the generic 'wedding planners' second part of the name. It's a personal event so even Mary's Wedding Planners could be very effective. Memorable name/ add the tag line to express your difference- that's the ticket.

The bird theme doesn't grab me. I would go with something more descriptive, like
    A Wedding to Remember
    Fine Details Wedding Planner
or if you're truly non-traditional, how about
    Weddings on the Edge

I too am not sold on the mertis of the bird theme. You want something that will be catchy to the largest number of brides.
