Ama - Good Networking Opportunity Or Waste Of $

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
I've been thinking about joining the American Marketing Association and I am curious if anyone in here is a member and could tell me pros and cons of joining the association.

I've also come across the Business Marketing Association. I'd be open to this as well.

Really I'm looking for great networking organizations so, if anyone knows of a better organization than the AMA or BMA please let me know as well.

    Dear milsher7,

I know nothing about the AMA, but I can recommend GKIC, otherwise known as Glazer-Kennedy Insider's Circle. Find out more here: dankennedy.com

    I hope this helps.

I have been with AMA for 2 years now. There isn't an AMA chapter in my area, so I can't speak for the in-person networking opportunities.

Some benefits of membership include, access to a job board; the Resource Library with white papers, case studies, best practices, webcasts, podcasts and more; access to events (mostly in NY, Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston); Special Interest Groups; and marketing publications.

I've found the Resource Library to be the most beneficial.

My only con is the absence of a local chapter, but I find enough benefit to continue my membership.

The quality of programs, attendees and networking opportunities varies by city. Some chapters, such as San Diego, are great. Other not so.

The best way to find out about your local chapter is to join and go.

    Cordially,

    Steve
