I believe you will find both terms all over the internet. Understand first that Marketing is everything you do, as a company, everything you and your employees say is marketing.
Your plan or strategy is to be written so as to have a type of roadmap to guide you along your growth path.
If you do not have a strategy....why are you in business?
You can not answer that question.

I propose a lot of reading for you, there are many perspectives, plan formats and reasons.

As for strategic, doesn't it make sense that most things one does in his business is for strategic or tactical reasons?

My advice is to write your plan in "pencil" (just a term), because the market will dictate to you where you will go, and what you will do when you get there. Be prepared to change, as directed.

However, you must have an initial concept of your products/services and how you propose to gain entry into the market, and once there retain and increase your share. This is your marketing strategy...however strong or weak it may be.

Good Luck

Let me attempt to answer this question.

A marketing plan is intended to lay out some marketing objectives and the means that will be employed to reach there. As there will be a number of variables involved it helps to have a clearly defined plan to ensure coordination and synergizing of their efforts.

A strategic marketing plan would be driven by the company’s overall vision and goals while a marketing plan which isn’t defined as strategic may be related to a narrower goal which wouldn’t be very meaningful or have much impact on the lives of the other disciplines within the organisation.

I hope this answers your question mcintosr

Hi there

A strategic Marketing Plan is developed on the basis of Longterm Strategy and Objective of the company. For example, a mobile company wants to be the no 1 mobile company in the country. Thats its objecitve, has a time line to achieve. Based on that a Strategy to acheive that objective will be developed. Based on that Strategy a Strategic Marketing Plan (this is a component of the Strategy) will be developed to achieve the objective in the stipulated time.

The marketing plan is a rather short term plan, usually for a year. But this is also developed based on the Strategic Marketing Plan in such a way that the SMP and Objective is achieved within the stipulated Long term time (say 10yrs)

hope this answers your queries.

cheers!!

Hello mcintosr

Apart from the above suggestions may i say that the marketing plan is a document of business evidencing to the future pattern and state of market performances of the firm. No plan is finite, and hence there is room for evolutionary changes over time. THe plan should give an opportunity to the firm to better the competition through appropriate tactics, policies and routines to help the organisation achieve its objectives.

Hope these thoughts help!!
