How To Promote A New Radio Station

Posted by Anonymous on 25 Points
I am starting a new alternative radio station. Looking for ways to reach my targeted base of men and women ages 18-24. I am concerned if I overly advertise I will lose fans but if not enough promotion I will not reach enough listeners. I am looking for advertising and promotions for 1st 6 months

I doubt you can over advertise a new radio station, though it is possible to advertise it in ways that are not as effective as others, particularly if you use only your station to carry your advertising.

Ideally, you need a mix of print and broadcast advertising, and by broadcast I'm talking about TV.

I don't understand how you will lose "fans" if you "overly advertise"...

When you say "radio station" do you mean an FCC licensed station with call letters, or do you mean pirate radio?

Everyone wants 18-24 and 18-34. Your competition is every radio station in your area, as well as ipods and MP3's...oh, and CD's....and the web.

Before I would begin to respond to your question(s), I would like to read how you respond.

In addition, why only for first six months? When planning media, I want to read an editorial calendar. I want to know what the promotions are for at least the first year. And, on a new station...I want to watch how the market reacts.

Your format focus may be 18-34, but your business focus is every advertiser in your ADI. Have you performed SWOT on your competition?

So, I can not answer the question without more information. In addition, how well are YOU funded? Can you spend $1M your first year out of the box?

When you say "Promotion" and "Advertising" can you explain what YOU mean by each term?

    Thanks

BE at lots of events and places where your potential audience is
Be seen be heard be involved
Get out and become part of the community you want to listen to you
Think about supporting the right charity
    Be visible
    Do outside broadcasts
Go to your audience do not expect them to come to you or find you.

    Good luck.

DEAR POSTER: Why are you not responding? You come in to the forum asking for advice. People expend their concepts to you and you do not respond to them??? Why?

It looks as if you are not really serious and this "idea" of yours isn't real...just thinking.
