What secondry data should be avilable for overseas markets andwhat are the problems in aquiring such data?

When I am looking at overseas markets, while I do look at data, I don't consider data in terms of "secondary" data (and presumably "primary" data). Can you give examples of what you mean by secondary data?

secondary data is data that is already out there, it is past research all ready conducted about the topic in question.

Good secondary data can be found from research houses like Euromonitor, Datamonitor, Nielsen to name a few. Some are better at particular industries so it does depend and vary.

The down side is these can be expensive so it depends on your research budget and objectives.

If you are looking for free data, you can try the government and trade sources for an individual country but know the figures are mostly out of date and can be hugely inaccurate beause of political biases.

The best approach to get to key data quickly, I've found, is to talk directly to the key influential people within the industry concerned or certain opinion formers that comment on the industry. These can be found through trade and business journals or articles-on/off line. You can also find them through event or speaking circuits that deal with the issues regarding a particular industry in a geographic region.

The more sources you can validate and cross reference your data, the better chance you will be in the right ballpark so to speak.
