How Can I Perform International Sales?
Posted By: msmoon10* on 11/1/2004 9:10 PM (CST) 250 Points
while I am in outside USA, I need to perform international sales targeting american customers.
Also, my company doesn't have any usa customers.
How can I perform the sales?

Well, I would start with what level of involvement you want in the US, ranging from exporting from your current country to setting up a subsidiary in the country. See an article I wrote at http://www.asiapreneur.com/articles/expandabroad-donohue.shtml for some details.

Beyond that, it would be best if you'd tell us some of the background (what the product is, who it would be sold to, etc.) so we can provide additional guidance.

msmoon,

Peter gave you good advice. Are you considering a direct sales model? I would suggest exploring the use of sales agents, representatives, channel partners and the like verses direct sales. Try using the “search questions” section on this page and Google for lots of info.

Best of luck,

- Steve

Depends on what you are in.

Its tough if you havent got any presence in US. But if you could get hold of a reputed agent then it could work. But the agent must be reputed and ready to get you the entry. You need to find out the guy with coneections in media etc

Hello msmoon

THe obvious solution for you is to seek relevant links with agents, dealers, who has the reach and local knowledge of the customers. The history of a famous car manufacturer, Hyundia, piggy backed on the GM network to bring into the USA the mercedez look alikes years back. GM came out of the red, while Hyundai benefited from the powerful networks of the host agent. Check http://www.hyundaiusa.com/About_Hyundai/History/History.asp

A lot depends on your product quality, terms of business, your plans (short and long term) etc. Your sourcing dependability, your own credibility and track record will also contribute much to your success.

Most of all, your confidence in yourself and your product, along with your ability to persist towards your success path, will decide your success, not only in the USA, but in any challenging, competitive free market.

All the best!

Hope these thoughts sell for you!
