I give up. Who are you? Why do you post all of these hypothetical questions?

No harm intended, I've just been wondering.

I ask a lot of hypothetical questions because thats how my marketing proffesor teaches us.In class he would give us hypothetical or unconventional questions and we would debate and discuss the question.

It forces you to think out side the box and challenge conventional wisdom. To think in an innovative way.Instead of just accepting whats written in some marketing textbook.

For instance he would ask us things like 'how would you fix apple's marketing woes from the past' or how would you compete against P&G if you started your own soap company. We recently had a debate on being 'customer focsed' vs being 'competitor focused'.

I am a marketing student and I like to come to this site to ask 'what if' questions to get feedback from the experts and get a wide range of view points. To see how I should 'think' as a marketer.

By the way my asking about 'bundling' was not a hypothetical question.

Would you flesh out what you view as bundling, packaging and product integration some more to allow for a more targeted reply

Cheers
Jason

hi mac504

here is my understanding of the two

Bundling Packaging is done to more than one supplementary products. Example: its like you have products like cornflackes, bread, cheese, butter milk etc. in your product line. You Bundle cornflackes with Milk and run a promotion for the consumers. For the promo period you bundle these two products and create a new Bundle Packaging.

The advantages of Bundling Packaging are
1. you get to sell items/products that are slow-moving by tagging it along with a fast moving brand/product
2. You increase the brand awareness of the slow moving brand and induce trail

Product Integration is you are actually integrating two different products, of different characteristics and product deliveries but some uncanny similarities in one way, into a new product.

Example is You have Shampoo and you have conditioner. these two products have different characteristics and deliveries. But they are both used in wet hair. So you merge the characterisitics of both these and create a shampoo that also works as conditioner alongwith.

The advantages of Product Integration are
1. You create a new product and brand and differentiate yourself amongst the market, ;)
2. you give consumers comfort of not using 2 products for their hair care rather only 1 will do for 2
3. you give consumers option of spending less money.

those were from the top of head, hope it helps.

cheers!!
