We run an ecommerce website in the UK, www.memorisethis.com and would like some professional opinions on the website and how we can improve it for customers use and ultimately gain more business through better conversions. Any thoughts, ideas or comments are greatly appreciated.

Hi Jon :)

I really like it! Very easy to navigate, particularly with buttons at the top going straight to the stores.

ROFL. I love the absurd novelties like arse face towel. It is like walking into a BBC or Discovery Channel store. Lots of interesting things to look at.

The only suggestion I can really offer is maybe switching to CSS design rather than tables. The page took quite a while to load and I think a lot of that could be cut down with a reduction in code.

I am a designer, not a marketing expert so I can't really offer you any other advice. Lots of peops here seem to give great advice which I am devouring myself.

Best of luck with this. I think it's a hoot :)

like the site... not a programmer, but agree with bruce...maybe that css thing would make the site load quicker as it was a little slow.

Hi Jon-

(1) Site loads VERY slow. Would fix this before you launch since it will effect how many people actually get to OR stay on your site.

(2) I would suggest changing all the tabs at the top to one color. The site is VERY colorful and all the colors at top make it difficult to focus. This will also help down the road when you want to market/highlight certain categories.

(3) When you are in a category, for instance "lifestyle," there is not a big enough design change in the nav that lets the user know where they are on your site. I suggest either adding header text on each page so you know what section you are in OR if you change all the tabs to one color, make the "lifestyle" tab highlight to a different color once you in the section. That will allow the user to know where they are at all times.

(4) In your Shopping Basket I would move the REMOVE link over to the left and reserve the right column for pricing only. A little Trash icon always help too.

(5) Since you require users to register before purchasing I would add something to the PLEASE REGISTER module the helps entice them to register. Maybe mentioning the reason they have to enter info AND maybe include the time it will take to register so they don't get scared away thinking it's just another long form to fill out.

(6) Lastly, I would add underlines to all your hyperlinks. The standard I always use for ecommerce web design is amazon.com - as soon as amazon thinks that users can distinguish links not underlined and not blue, then I think the rest of the world can follow. They've spent millions on user testing so it's always valuable to learn from their site.

Hope this helps.
Best regards.

Site looks fine to me, the main issue I see is that it loads dog slow and even throughout the navigation of the site it seems to be the same.

If you can keep things from moving around while the page loads, that will lessen the appearance of a long load time.

Lessen twitches by defining image widths. If images are dynamically inserted, also define the widths of places where images will appear.

Use CSS to get repeating formatting off of the page - for example font tag related things and table tag widths. This will cut your code down and speed things up.

Is there a way to cut down on nesting tables within nesting tables? If so, visitors won't have to wait for what is at the top of view> source to load before they get to look at your content.

ALWAYS have something quick-loading and interesting to see at the top of a page.

Until I hit "refresh" the navigation tabs at the top right were scrunched behind their neighbor.

Wham covers other techie useability issues.

AND

I'd put anything XX adults on a separate page. Some people will not hang around when they see XX. Even if they'd look at it on their own, they may have kids in the room.

You have content that would be fun for teens or teenyboppers, and look kid-friendly with that cartoon face on your live help dialog. However, teens may never get to see your site if you're filtered out due to an XX section, drinking games, or gambling. Maybe register something like memorisethistoo.com? LOL

Some of this stuff is VERY attractive to kids (and me!! Mother's day is coming!) My teen is stellar, usually, but with the presence of filter-attracting content I wouldn't count on the average family suggesting that a kid go browsing for a Mother's day gift on this site.

it's really really good!
my time on your website was really fun, but i want suggest u to create more and more personalization and a one to one relationship with your registered customers.
in a few words, your site is one of the best application fields for CRM.

good luck

I can't get into the site at all.

I'm running MS IE 5.1 on a Mac OS9.2. The site gets 30secs and about half opened, then hangs on "tab14.gif" for 1 min. When 7/8ths loaded it stops on "antworks(2).gif" and hangs indefinitely. Has done the same thing twice.

Hope this helps.

Really cute. Easy to navigate. The only thing I would work on is adding more white space on the home page. It looks a bit crowded.

I'd suggest not making it a fixed width, as this causes people with resolutions lower than 1024x768, or who don't run browser windows at fullscreen to have to scroll sideways, which is annoying for customers.
