Just for fun, here. "KFC" or "Kentucky Fried Chick" - which name would you use and why?

Background: some 14 years ago, the name was changed from Kentucky Fried Chicken to KFC to downplay the word fried, which has negative, unhealthy implications. But now they are considering changing back to the old name - perhaps there is still more brand value in the full name than in KFC. Read the article and I don't think the name has anything to do with it. The food probably tastes better at the new Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants because I bet its competing with Popeyes!
Popeyes rules in my area!

Kentucky Fried Chicken gets my vote.

It still has that "finger licking good" memory to me. KFC sounds corporate, not like good food. It just doesn’t sound appealing to eat at KFC. I thought it was a bad idea from day one, and hope they change it back.

If I were "YUM" I wouldn't peck around w/changing back. I'd keep the coop clean w/KFC. After all ... IT ISN'T FRIED ANYWAY... It's kinda steamed.
But Kentucky Steamed Chicken just doesn't ....well, it makes me gag.

I think Kentucky Fried Chicken is better....

Because that is what they do! Make Fried Chicken....

If you don't want to sell "fried" chicken, then get out of the business, but if you sell fried chicken be proud of what you sell.....

I think it is never good to dilute your image in the marketplace, no matter what you do!

I vote Kentucky Fried Chicken!

Peter,

I don't eat at KFC because I don't what a "KFC" is.

I used to eat at place called Kentucky Fried Chicken because I grew up with them and I knew what I was getting - tasty fried chicken invented by some "Colonel" dude who dressed very natty and had a cool goatee.

But then one day about 14 years ago they all disappeared......

I live 5 min walk from Kfc, personal i like the kfc name, but i use both names interchange ablely.

But the other day i went in there and they had RUN OUT OF CHICKEN, PEPSI AND CHOCOLATE THICK SHAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know why they were open because all they had were chips and a few deserts.

I grew up on the original name so I am partial to Kentucky Fried Chicken.

IF people spontaneously corrupted the name to KFC the same way they organically and independently shortened Federal Express to FedEx, then I would say the company should scramble to recapture that popular corruption and go with KFC. The people have spoken and you had better learn to speak their language.

IF on the other hand it was a top down decision by some new VP of Marketing out to make his mark on the company with arbitrary and confusing name changes, then they should have stayed with the original name. KFC sounds like a radio station or an auto parts supplier. Kentucky Fried Chicken seemed so dignified, even when it was served by a guy in a paper hat. Probably because of the mustacioed colonel with the string tie and the "11 herbs and spices" line.

An interesting side bar. My cousin worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken when they were running the "11 herbs and spices" ads. He said he counted the spices and he could only come up with 7, and that was including the flour and water in the crispy coating.

Interesting - I suppose the world goes a full circle. Comfort food is back in fashion - never mind the waist line.

I far prefer KFC as that finger looking good strapline got a lot of bad attention and some very below the belt jokes.

I also like the modern feel of it.

Personally, I would not eat at either - crumbed and fried is just not on my radar. We have Nandos here, which is grilled and much better.

As a kid, I worked at Kurt's Kentucky Fried Chicken. This was way back, when the Colonel was still travelling, making stops at all franchise locations from time to time. I got me a cane from the man himself.

Going KFC, was a mistake. Just like the Coke, new coke debacle...nobody listened to the customer.

The customer knew Kentucky Fried Chicken.
KFC? WTF?!!!

I don't care if they come out with Crispy, Extra Crispy, or Nuclear skinned glow in the dark double batter dipped...just don't mess with my regular blend of 11 secret herbs and spices.....EVER!

Next time, look before you rebrand, and take a proper public opinion poll! Jeesh!

And for the record, the chicken is deep fried in a pressure cooker designed and built just for Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants, it isn't steamed.

Keep it finger lickin' good, or face the wrath of my extended middle finger. Eva (Kurt's wife) always told us to stick with the plan. Head office should do the same!
