Any ideas for a marketing flier to deliver to households via walking neighborhoods?

Thanks.

What's the objective? Why home-delivered fliers and not, newspaper ads, for example? Or post cards? Or cable-tv spots?

The way you ask the question, this sounds like a media solution looking for a problem to solve.

Step back and review your marketing plan. What are you trying to accomplish? Who is your prime target audience (the so-called "low-hanging fruit")? What problem(s) do they have that you can solve? How do they make these kinds of decisions? Etc.

We need more information before we can really help you. Maybe the walking-neighborhoods approach is right and maybe it isn't. Or are you so totally committed to this approach that you don't care whether it's likely to work or not?

Most hand-delivered fliers end up in the trash or as trash on the street. So, in most cases that are not a welcome item in neighborhoods and would likely have more negative impact on your business than positive.

I agree with Michael, you need to be more specific about your strategy and plan. Who are you really trying to reach and what's the best way to reach them? The more specific you can target your audience, the less flyers you'll be just throwing away in the wind.

an american flag stuck in the lawn on the 4th of July...depending upon the neighborhood may be welcome...a local realtor distributes her biz card on the stick that the flag is on...

this also solves the blowing problem...and the flags can be had for really cheap b/c they're made in china.

I'd think carefully before putting flyers on doors or in mailboxes. Personally, I always throw them out, unless, of course, they're from a new take-away.

Judging from the responses you are getting you should explain to the members that PrePaid Legal is a home based business that has all the features of being a multi-level marketing endeavor and consequentlly requires lots of "face time" and personal networking with real live customers. Only a very few PrePaid Legal reps have figured out how to have a thriving business on the internet. Just like with most MLMs you will either be making money recruiting new reps or actually direct selling the product line.

So, the first question you have to answer is this... am I recruiting or am I selling the product (legal services)? I think putting both themes on the flyer is a bad idea... but it's up to you.

Now on the subject of walking the neighborhood ..... please keep one thing what I and many MLMers have found out.......Decent people don't slam doors on children....but they will on adults and grown-ups. Also, if there are restrictions on soliciting a neighborhood or if there are signs that say "No Solicitation" then save yourself a lot of grief and aggravation by not breaking these rules. Also, one other thing....be very choosey about the neighborhood you decide to canvass.

Now here is an example of a successful door to door campaign that a friend of mine did in Texas.
My friend owned a telecom mlm franchise. He concentrated on selling the service ( a $49.95 a month residential local service/long distance service with unlimited long distance calling to all 50 states and all US territories abroad). His commission on the monthly bills paid by the customers is 10%. If the customer referred someone else to the service, then that customer would become my friend's customer. This referral process could go to unlimited levels and those customers would be my friend's customers. (I hope this makes sense).

My friend, instead of using a standard flyer - had a door hung flyer developed for him. One weekend, he and his wife took their two cute daughters and canvassed an upscale neighborhood. His daughters would knock on the door and just hand the flyer to the resident when they opened the door. No script involved. If nobody was home then they would simply hang the flyer on the door knob. But true to expectations, none of the residents "slammed the door" on my friend's daughter.

The results: Out of 100 flyers handed out; 17 became actual customers eventually....and within an 8 month period those 17 started a referral progression going down at least 10 generations that netted approximately
800 more customers. If you do the math, the residual income that my friend was receiving then was in four figures every month.

I hope this helps. Oh, by the way, my friend did pay his daughters so as not to violate any child labor laws.

yahmonyah,
You've gotten a lot of good advice already. I would suggest that you consider:
1) what is your primary objective? Figuring out that will give you a lot of your answers
2) where you want to target and why
3) spend a little more money on something other than a flyer and it should more than make up for it in better response
4) be careful of solicitation restrictions. Also, some municipalities require you to register with the police or with city hall. Check into that.
5) Look seriously at other ways to get the word out!

I hope this helps!

hi there

conrad has given a great example of creatively doing selling :-)) and really great advice from micheal on you want to do flyer in the first place.

some ideas of flyers...

1. in US the newspaper is ditributed in rolled format. why dont you cover the newspaper roll with your brand name and then the newspaper will be distributed. this will at least catch the attention of the consumers

2. have the flyer in a unique shape, so that the consumer will at least think of having a look before throwing away.

3. instead of having a newspaper flyer, design your flyer as a Parking Ticket. then distribute those flyers on the vehicles in your target area. the user will at least will see the "Ticket".

hope that helps.

cheers!!
