What Keywords Should I Use For My Website?

Posted by Anonymous on 100 Points
Not sure if this is the place to post this, but here it goes. I am in the process of revamping my keywords and keyword density for my site. Our target market is people who list classified ads in their local newspaper. Our service is a relatively new idea so I am not certain people are even searching for us at this point. One of our keywords, classified photo hosting, has great rankings including #2 on google. But, it is not a popular search. Can anyone give me ideas of what other keywords I should target? Preferrably a more popular search. Basically, if you were our target market, what would you be searching for?

    Janet,

The first thing you need to do is find the keywords that are relevant to your site that people have ACTUALLY used in searches. Ideally you want keywords that people use frequently in searches but for which there are not many competing sites. (if there are 4,000 competing sites, no SEO will get you to the top of the list).
I recommend that you use Wordtracker www.wordtracker.com It will allow you to analyse all the search words and phrases that have been used in searches in the last 60 days. You then pick the ones that you think are most appropriate to your site content and Wordtracker will tell you how many competing sites are registered with the different search engines for each of the words/phrases that you have chosen. You can use a free 30 day trial of wordtracker or alternatively you can sign up for a week, month or year. I hope this helps you to find those special words that will bring lots of RELEVANT traffic to your site.
