Reducing Large Video W/sound For Website Viewing

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
I need to convert a large video -- 09:15 min long, 61 MB in size, .mov format created in QuickTime -- to an acceptable size for access on a website. I have NO experience in working with videos or Flash, and soon learned that a "little knowledge" can be dangerous. I tried to reduce it's size myself by converting it first to a .avi format and then into a Flash file. The result was a mess, with the sound ridiculously off track, and the clock is ticking for the deadline. Videos are NOT my area of expertise, but I don't have a reliable contact who can help me get this accomplished and embedded into the website I am working on. Note: I've purchased a couple of video editing programs (AVS Converter and Camtasia Studio 3), but the learning curve is prohibitive with my deadline in mind. Thanks to anyone who can step up to the plate.

RAD video tools is excellent, free, and easy to use.

    Get it here: https://www.divx-digest.com/software/radvideotools.html

You can select final use, which will determine how big the file is. For web will produce a small, fast loading file. Bink compression tool may help too.

Here is a handy tool for embedding your file into HTML code.

    https://cit.ucsf.edu/embedmedia/step1.php

It generates the html code for you. Add your new video file, it adds html code, cut n paste into your web page. Bob's yer uncle, you made your deadline.

    Hope this helps you.

I just thought of something, if you want someone to do it for you, I may be able to help out. Even with the tools I just gave you, it might be too much. Contact me via my profile, or post this in the projects area if you wish.

Well there are a few options open to you.

If I were you I would NOT use AVI for online videos. The reason is because there are so few people that have the DivX webplayer installed.

You could try reducing the width and height of the movie to get a better size. You could also make the movie have Mono Sound.

You could break the video up into 3 minute segments and post them indivually.

Also you could post them on to YouTube and use there flash technonly to compress it for you. Then use this script to download the FLA file https://videodownloader.net/help/vd04.htm .

Then just post it as a flash page.

Or you could post it as a WMV file. The BEST straming media is the realmedia RM format but people

I have a program that converts it to flash which as some of the others have stated might be better. If you need help or would like me to convert it - let me know and I will be more than happy to.

It can even put your logo on it plus a few other options as well.
