Points, Points, Points For Profiles, Profiles, Profiles

Posted by Chris Blackman on 10000 Points
I've had some time to answer a few questions on the forum lately and I'm constantly frustrated by the number of members who want a problem solved or some input or insight, but have absolutely no info in their profile. For example, they don't have their country, state or type of industry specified, so you have to ask them about those details, and often they don't reply.

As an incentive, I'm offering points to people who fill out their profiles. Fill it out, then make a quick response through here to say you've updated your profile. I'll leave this open for a couple of weeks to 20 January if that's OK with the moderators.

C'mon, don't be shy. Tell us a bit about yourself!

Happy New Year to all.

Thanks for bringing this up, Chris. I've often asked folks where they are located... but never realized that I did not have that info on my own profile - which I've now updated.

Thanks for the quick action and responses.

Points will be distributed to all when I close the question.

    Keep up the good work...

Wow, Dave, even long time members need to check their profiles too, well done buddy!

Randall, I must expand on the success in business because of this forum thing. I have personally benefited not only from the knowledge, but from the practice of honing my website critiques. This skill alone has made the process worth it.

Profile updated!! (and I updated my company site as well ... why is it that we tend to take better care of our clients than ourselves? Nice reminder here.)

    As Always,

I just joined today. I didn't even know I had a profile, but I do now, and it's been updated. :-)

I noticed a half a paragraph was dropped from my profile. Word to the wise, once you have updated your profile, make a copy of it. Go to your profile, highlight and copy the text, paste into a text document, and save it to your hard drive. I've done this a while ago, and the couple of times my profile went boing, it was a simple fix. Saved me re-writing. Darcy (low tech fix) Moen, Customer Loyalty Network

    Chris --

You deserve a 'refund' of all the points you've posted. Your action has obviously caused a number of members to update their profiles. Good show.

So often I have wondered who has made a post only to learn that I can't . . . because thier profile hasn't been posted. Thank you!

    Bill

    P. S.
I did my profile a long time ago!

Thanks for the points and request. I updated my profile. I didn't know where to go at first -- then found the My Account area ( I thought I could update through my profile area) good exercise for all it seems!

What a shame that it takes a bribe to get people to do what they should have done already.

I suspect that what happens is that people have a burning question, logon to the KHE to get their question on the table, and never even notice that they probably ought to fill out their profile. If it's not required, it's probably natural to take the path of least resistance.

Anyway, thanks for doing this. We'll all benefit, I'm sure.

And I took the opportunity to be sure my own profile is up to date.

    Nice idea, Chris.

Great idea. I just joined and your post sent me on a quest to FIND the profile update page.

I updated/created mine but will take a look at the others to see what seems to be most often included. Thanks for a great suggestion!

    Chris,

I have updates my profile to include my location. Next: I think we should take points away from people who ask questions and then let the question "expire" and never close it! Or at least we should all blow raspberries at them! Hey, I know...if an author asks a question and fails to close, then any further questions NO ONE CONTRIBUTE! Yah. Bad form to do that.

Oh, and those that don't read the previous responses and say exactly the same thing...take points away from them!

    Good job with this one!

    Dear Chris Blackman,

    Happy New Year 2007

Thanks you for doing this. I think it gives more sense when you type there name before advertising comments.

We are marketing professionals but we are not doing proper format whilst writing our suggestions.

This will be next task for every one to bring that professional attitude to the marketing community.

Sure it counts and I'll be distributing the points pool in eleven days from now - but it would be helpful to know where you are based, so when you ask a question, people can try to frame an answer within your usual geographical market context.

Not everyone here is from the US...

I guess some people want to be anonymous here and I respect that. But if there's no real reason to hide your location, and maybe your industry, don't be shy.

    Update your profile, with pride!

    Dear Chris

Timely reminder – I put the kind and whacky words Cary wrote about me into my Bio. Not bothered about the points, so here’s a controversial thing: I love to hear from members off line and indeed in any other way they feel they wish to communicate. (Carrier Pigeon is my favourite) but out of the hundreds of emails which I receive which are “Off-Forum” could I request that they stay “On-Forum” if they are about a subject we are discussing on MarketingProfs?

It seems to me to be a bit rude to short-change the members if you are not brave enough to have your ideas praised or slagged-off other contributors!

    Regards

    What's up Chris B!

We haven't emailed each other in a while but Happy New Year Guy!

This is a great idea and you know what I'll speak to my webmaster about updating my info with the Country, State and City. For those of you who'd like to know now.

I'm located in the United States of America, and in the state of Illinois within one of the most curiously small cities since Palm Springs. It's a city called St. Charles.

Here's our 2005 report on the city in case you'r thinking about moving here.
    https://www.stcharlescity.com/Government/Mayor/2005_report_of_city.pdf

Historical Quick facts. There are some things here that even I didn't know. Like our city use to be the capitol for Missouri. I also learned that St. Charles used to be one of the cities they used for the Underground Railroad that former Slave Harriet Tubman was so famous for leading slaves to Freedom, from the South to the North.
    https://www.stcharlescity.com/QuickFacts/Default.asp

Well if you'd like to know more about anything I'm available to tell it all. Thanks everyone and remember your past is not equal to your future. But you are the sum total of every idea, and every experience you have ever had. If you want to change your future just "Change your Mind". If you want to change your life for good and turn it around for ever stop practicing INSANITY. What is INSANITY...well it's doing the same thing but expecting different results. And that's cool too if you have the mind of Einstein who knew that the answers could change even though the questions remained the same. I LOVE you all.

Is there anything at all that I can do for you?

    Your Servant,

    Deremiah, *CPE

    Wow, this is going well!

Thanks everyone for updating your profile. Just a few more days... Remember to make sure your profile says where you are from, because that WILL help people help you.

And besides, Australians are just nosy like that.

I will make this urgent soon to bring it up on everyone's radar that hasn't responded yet... No need to respond a second time, though, thanks.

Hi, Chris -- long time since we've chatted. Hope all is well down under.

Thanks for reminding all that info is needed to suggest a possible solution.

FYI, I've updated (again) my profile, from which I noticed some content had disappeared. Glad I checked at your prompting. Thanks.

I couldn’t agree with Michael more. Thanks to your posting, I have taken to asking posters (new or long-standing) to update their Bio’s so that I know to whom I am conversing!

An upgraded profile is a happy profile...

This forum is the how I warm up for the day....
It provides me with mental stretching exercises, and, a powerful stimulator of new ideas.

Many of articles I have written came about because of a leftover subliminal thought that bounced in from marketingprofs.com

Is this the end of the line? Thanks.

Yeah, I saw the notice too. Funny how we forget to update our profiles. Kind of like forgetting to change the oil in the car.

Right, that little red light. In this case, I guess it's the carrot instead of the stick, but the same principle; we need to be reminded.

Not much, just a couple of small changes. But I'm glad I looked at it. First time I've done that in months.

So, how long have YOU been in line here?
  • Posted by Jim Brown on Accepted
I filled in all the holes in my profile. I guess it is a good starting point! :-)

Awesome Idea...I realized I hadn't updated my profile in almost a year. It is now updated and chock full o' information.

Thanks for the opportunity to earn some points doing something that should have been done anyhow.

It's kinda like paying my kids to clean their bedrooms...hate doing it but it gets the job done.

    Take Care,

An oh, BTW, Kamran way above suggested we all join up on LinkedIn.

I'm happy to do that, you can link by e-mailing me via my profile here on MarketingProfs/KHE.

I'm also on Xing which used to be called OpenBC, if anyone wants to link up with me there.

    Have a great week...
