Website Convertion Rates? Bechmarks?

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
Hi all,
I am trying to find out what is a realistic conversion rate goal for a web site like ours.

1. B2B software site: Goal of site is to create leads for sales to follow up on (by having visitors fill out form or call)
2. "Conversion" to us means filling out our form for free demo or info
3. Depending on which stats I look at, approximately 7-10% of visitors fill out our form.
4. Web site in question: https://www.high5software.com

What are good benchmarks for this type of conversion or where could I find them. Also interested in your own experience with web site conversion rates. (Are we doing pretty well or missing the boat?)

Thanks,
Jo

First question before you consider conversion is, directed traffic your source of traffic - how do they arrive at my site.

A conversion rate based on PPA will be (and should be) much higher than organic traffic. You should also review Unique site visitors vs. Returning visitors again a different ration should be applied.

Links in from affiliate sites, etc must next be considered.

Once you get your site arrivals you. Next you must consider content and drill downs - where did they enter your site - home, landing page - directed content etc -----that will play a significant role in conversion.

Analytics should be done and maintained to determine trends of traffic, etc

A good SEO program and analytics will provide you ability to increase conversion rates....Do not look for the norm----set you own benchmarks based on ROI

PS: your home page has a Google ranking of 3 - I would definitely recommend you work on increasing this before thinking conversion. VISABILITY = CONVERSION.

Mike is point on saying 7-10% is very very good . That proves the content, offering is valuable to visitors.
Of course the question is if you are happy with the base i.e. 7-10% of how many, but that's a different story.

    Jo,

Google Site Analytics has a Great conversion tool you can use when you setup a Google Ad Words account.

In short, you can attach HTML coding to each page of your site, attach a separate code to the conversion page and gather daily stats. You do not need to spend any great money on the ad words, the tools alone pay for themselves, since they are FREE with any account. The tool will actually do ALL your math for basic conversion rates, drop offs, etc.

What I mentioned earlier, by gather site stats, you can determine "where and you" becomes your best conversion and then spend you marketing efforts in that community or demographics.
Your site provides great content, the software seems like a great add-on for many companies.

Keep up the good work - it will definitely pay the dividends you seek.

Good Luck and Happy Marketing ~
