Do I Need Anything Else In The Swot Analysis?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
this is a swot analysis for xbox 360.....i fel as though i need a fe more points. can anyone help? thank you

SWOT Analysis
Strengths
It was launched before any of its competitors so has better market knowledge
It has a better online services (Xbox Live) than its competitors and has a bigger fan base that are loyal to it
The new halo series of games are soon arriving on Xbox 360, sales will surely rise as there is again a huge fan base for this
It is backed by one of the biggest businesses in the world
Price. It is lower than Sony’s Playstation 3

Weaknesses
Technical problems. (Appendix A,b)
Sony and Nintendo both have a large customer base
Their position in the experience curve is not well placed

Opportunity
HD technology can boost their sales as it enhances the image seen on a HD enabled television. Instead of using Blu-Ray HD technology
Microsoft can take advantage of the fact that Nintendo has broadened its target market; therefore, they are not heavily focused with the same market as Microsoft anymore.

Threats
Sony’s Blu-Ray may win the console race
Sales are being lost to Sony and Nintendo
Price. It is much higher than Nintendo’s Wii
‘Modding’ of the hardware and Piracy of games has been a big problem for the first Xbox.

thank you

Here is an article on Strengths and Weaknesses of the XBox 360.

    https://www.ps3power.com/xbox360strengths.htm

    Strengths:
    Huge marketing organization
    Supplier base for manufacturing

    Weakness:
No interface to allow existing XBox games to be used

While being first to market is an advantage, it is a weakness too because the competitors can watch and learn.

    Opportunities:
Forge partnerships with game manufacturers, to have a large stable of exclusive games

    Threats:
Wide-spread anti-Microsoft feelings because of their dominance of the operating system world

    I hope this helps.

    Hi, I work in a games shop so hopefully I can help, Some of the stuff I mention relevant to the ps3 only relates to the UK;

strengths: gave customers choice; core or premium, appealing to serious/ online gamers and casual gamers-In uk there is no choice for ps3 only the high spec.
It is hugely back compatible- the chip in the UK ps3 has been removed so it wont play ps2 games.
Other games with huge fan base e.g. GTA will be available on xbox again when GTA4 is released, also more exclusive games such as gears of war, import tuner, kameo, perfect dark, etc.

customizable-can change fascias&online users can have different "gamer tags"

weaknesses: although price is lower was sold at a loss for a while as Microsoft knew people would be less likely to buy if it was higher (and plus the co. is big enough to support the loss)

The PS3s online gaming will be free

-Im going to assume you has a grasp of the tech problems; red lights, lasers burn discs, etc. (my store has about 10 faulty returns a week)

Opportunities;Japanese market-xbox has a very weak market share in japan as they prefer sony&nintendo. Maybe a bit of market research would allow them access to this market.

xbox are beginning to open up to the lower age market with games like viva pinata

Threats;Microsoft have acknowledged that Nintendo are now a bigger threat than Sony, due to their innovation

Hope this is of some use to you :)

Hi I would like to add a few comments:

The Xbox 360 is made of cheap parts in china while Nintendo and Sony make there's in Japan which has good quality. The xbox360 has a 50% fail rate with in the first year!!!!. There tech support is spilit between India and America. While the American tech support is helpful and actually tries to help people with failed systems by sending them a box to post the unit back for free to be repaired, the Indian tech support is not very good. They wont help people, they are rude and just transfer people around until they give up in frustration.

Also while there are a lot of games for the Xbox they are basically all the same First person shooters. There are not many RPGs (Role Playing games and the ones they do have are not very good).

Plus there are a ton of other things but I might end up sounding like a fanboy, I have a PS2 and have preorderd the PS3 ($1000).

Microsoft's XBox 360 quality problems had nothing to do with "cheap parts" but were instead due to issues with robustness of the design - mostly mechanical. In fact, many of the problems were due to overheating caused by users not following the directions and placing the box where there could be air circulation, like the manual says. I'm not letting Microsoft off, however, because the design should take into account how people use it and be more robust.

It is a myth that parts manufactured in China are low quality. 80% or more of the memory in the world are manufactured in China. 90%+ of the PC's are manufactured in China.

It is a myth that Japanese manufacturers manufacture in Japan exclusively. They simply can't compete on a global scale and manufacture in Japan where their cost of labor is as high as the US. Sony manufactures PS3 in China (by Asustech - who makes a large global share of desktop and notebook PC's):

    Nintendo manufactures Wii in China:
