SWOT Analysis
Strengths
It was launched before any of its competitors so has better market knowledge
It has a better online services (Xbox Live) than its competitors and has a bigger fan base that are loyal to it
The new halo series of games are soon arriving on Xbox 360, sales will surely rise as there is again a huge fan base for this
It is backed by one of the biggest businesses in the world
Price. It is lower than Sony’s Playstation 3
Weaknesses
Technical problems. (Appendix A,b)
Sony and Nintendo both have a large customer base
Their position in the experience curve is not well placed
Opportunity
HD technology can boost their sales as it enhances the image seen on a HD enabled television. Instead of using Blu-Ray HD technology
Microsoft can take advantage of the fact that Nintendo has broadened its target market; therefore, they are not heavily focused with the same market as Microsoft anymore.
Threats
Sony’s Blu-Ray may win the console race
Sales are being lost to Sony and Nintendo
Price. It is much higher than Nintendo’s Wii
‘Modding’ of the hardware and Piracy of games has been a big problem for the first Xbox.
