Chennai seems to house a lot of call centers which call into Australia and I suspect also into Europe and the USA.

Americans, British and Australians can be somewhat derisory of these call services which are generally promoting trade competitions, utility or phone company deals, and usually start with "Good day Mr (name), my name is (insert some unlikely, non-Indian-sounding name here, like Keith, Dave or Tony), how are you today?

If you wanted to do the image of Chennai, and possibly the whole of India, a favour with your dissertation, you could study how these call centres work, analyse the problems they face (I imagine they must get around 99.95% hang-up rate) and come up with some ideas for better practices which might lead to higher conversion ratios for them.

It would be fun, and could help increase your national competitiveness.
