Looking For An Irreverant Angle On Banners Ads For A New Product
Posted By: Richard B* on 8/6/2004 9:18 AM (CST) 80 Points
A friend of mine recently launched her business - the primary product is a set of cards called the OuchKit. The cards are designed to help couples (and others) communicate better. My friend thinks that a "irreverant" or slightly naughty banner campaign might help drive traffic to the site. Some ideas she has already developed are "Are you married to Fred Flintstone?" and "The OuchKit helps you say, "You're breath stinks" from just the right distance". Has anyone got any other suggestions for this cool idea? The site is located at www.theouchkit.com if you need more background.

Since this particular product is a "specialty" product targeting a particular niche, I would suggest contacting counseling related sites such as the APA, NASW etc. to perhaps do some "cross promotion" or banner exchanges and linking. I think the name of the product is catchy and will raise peoples curiosity. Your website is easy to read and is well organized too. You could probably play on the "Ouch Kit" idea by tying in something about "words hurting" or "fighting fair" in your marriage etc.

I think it is a good idea as well, one that could be promoted by counseling professionals. For banners, if youwant something different, maybe you should contact doubleclick or pointroll. They build interactive banners that not only deliver a message, but can stream video or float across the screen, or fold out to reveal email registration boxes and additional info. And vendors like AOL, MSN, and Yahoo are running these banners at no extra charge.

As afar as creqative, maybe you can show couples getting along, in love, happy, and say "An hour ago they were fighting." I'm thinking simple shapes in animation with flirting eyes and silouettes of couples coming together or kissing. Make it sensual. Show the benefits of the cards, not the fighting.

Great ideas by aosterday!!!

just adding to his ideas, Richard, you look at option of having your Banner Ad in all MSN sites (MSN is in various language to various ethnic community around the world) and all these sites have at least one link titled Relationship/Marriage/Dating etc. You can put your banner ad in thoese pages so that surfers at least click and visit your page ensuring your target consumers are visiting your website.

well placing banner ad in the top of the webpage may not ensure surfers clicking. To counter that lemme share what i have seen in an Indian webapage. I remember an Indian website (not sure which one, probably Yahoo India or Rediff.com), they had this banner come in an animated form on the main headlines/topic of the page (eclipsing that headline/topic). well surfers will actually click on that Animated Banner(asking oneself "what the heck") and will visit your page.

Oh! dont forget to check out the possibility of having your banner in Google mail, the hottest mail now-a-days!

hope this helps!

Cheers!

Mushfique
