Who's For Hire Here?

Posted by SRyan ;] on 250 Points
Hi, everyone...

Recently a member contacted me offline about a potential project. I haven't considered myself a "for hire" expert here, however.

(Hmmm... even though BirdNest keeps me busy, maybe I should consider moonlighting as a consultant... gotta think that over!)

I wanted to direct that member to other KHE experts. The problem, though, is that until MP implements some of the project-related features (which we've discussed offline), I'm not certain who to recommend. Scanning your profile pages, it's not always clear if you're even for hire!

Thus, for now I'd appreciate it if you would post a response here to answer the questions below. Please do NOT make suggestions for how a project board should work -- save those ideas for another thread!

I'll keep this open for a few days. I hope it's obvious why I'm not sugaring it with too many points.

Humble thanks,

¤ Shelley ¤

Anthony, I've posted this question as an "interim solution" to modifying the Profile pages. Until those pages are redesigned, I sincerely want to know what kind of consulting our Experts can provide.

It's no secret that Experts with talent are often sought after by visitors who post questions here. Eventually there may be an official page for members to post projects for bid, but that is a lower priority for MarketingProfs.

What about you? Are YOU for hire?

BTW- I extend a 15% Referral/finders fee for all referred business.

i.e. If you sent me someone who paid an intial retainer of $20,000, you would receive $3000 for sending them my way.

Of course, you have to have a current referral agreement with me, but all it takes is a signature and a few emails/phone calls to earn a piece of the pie.

Add that to your Rolodex as well. LOL.

    Thanks Shelley!

    1) yes, but not so much as a consultant, instead more as a contracted team member for the company.

    2) full-time

    3) three areas, all focusing on B2B:
    - startup marketing/business development (American startups)
    - those companies trying to gain access to the US from abroad (specialty is companies in Asia trying to break into US)
    - those American companies trying to expand abroad (specialty of expanding into Asia)

    4) SF Bay area, California (USA)

    5) can support global, but aimed at the specific areas listed in #3

    Shelley...

Great idea! I find KHE a lively community to belong to, and one that I feel much more "part of" than, for example, the networking sites like Ryze or Ecademy.

So, while I wouldn't want KHE to become an "in-your-face" netwoking site, I do feel there is an opportunity for those of us that do consider ourselves "for hire" as you describe it, to help each other through KHE.

In which case, here's my response to your questions:

    • Do you or your team offer marketing services to the public?
    Yes

    • Is it your full-time job, or a sideline to your "other" job?
Full-time - my sideline is my "other" work as a tutor and examiner on professional marketing courses for the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

    • What's your favorite work or expertise that you can provide?
I work with clients (mainly large companies) to develop and deliver marketing training programmes for their staff teams.
The exact content of these progammes depends on the needs of the client

    • Where are you based?
    Peterborough, UK

    • How wide is the region you can/will support?
Because of the face-to-face nature of my work, I restrict myself to delivering progammes in the UK.

Look forward to hearing of the progress of this project.

    Good luck,
    Bob

Howdy Shelley. Thanks for your interest.

    • Do you or your team offer marketing services to the public?

    yes

    • Is it your full-time job, or a sideline to your "other" job?

for now it's a sideline, but it's slowly becoming full-time

    • What's your favorite work or expertise that you can provide?

I love ATL and BTL, and copywriting specifically. It makes me very happy. I've done it all--from strategy to financial analysis--but "finding the hook" is the most fun.

    • Where are you based?

    Italy

    • How wide is the region you can/will support?

A little region called the Marche, where 90% of people don't even know what marketing is or does. I'm a one-woman show, so I'm not going global just yet.

    Keep those answers coming, everyone!

For some of you top 20 experts, I'm also interested in knowing who's NOT for hire.

I'll probably close this question by Friday. Thanks for all of the responses so far...

Anthony, no apologies necessary. Thinking IS required around here, but I'll be gawsh-darned if I've never hit the Okay button a bit too soon.
    (Is that Premature Opinionation?)

I know it's late, but somehow I missed the original post, so I'm going to just add my info as a kind of P.S.

Do you or your team offer marketing services to the public?

    Yes.

Is it your full-time job, or a sideline to your "other" job?

Full-time job. My "other" job is writing. Four books so far -- two as sole author, one as ghost-writer for the chairman/president/ceo of a major marketing services firm, and one as co-author.

What's your favorite work or expertise that you can provide?

Marketing strategy, positioning, brand building. Have had a nice run of success with pricing strategy projects, so I guess that could be added to the list. Developed some neat quantitative approaches to price elasticity.

    Where are you based?

Westport, Connecticut ... about 45 minutes northeast of Manhattan.

How wide is the region you can/will support?

Greatest value in US and Canada, though several projects have involved Europe/Asia. One client actually headquartered in Geneva, but with a significant US presence.
