Renaming Our Small Community Non-profit

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
We provide opportunities for people harmed—physically, emotionally, or materially—by crime or conflict to be returned to wholeness through restorative justice. Restorative justice views crime and conflict as creating possibilities—for restoring the victim, for holding the offender accountable, and for creatively involving the community in the process.

Using volunteer mediators we facilitate healing, productive conversations between harmed and harm-doer using face-to-face encounters or “circle conferences” involving victim, offender—and their immediate community. We create safe, structured opportunities to enable people to come together to ask questions, express strong emotions, and find ways to repair the harms. We work with individuals, in schools, organizations, and correctional institutions.

Mission: Through restorative processes we create opportunities for those in conflict or who have experienced harm to return to wholeness.

Tagline:
Restoring wholeness following harm….

Thanks anybody. I'm a newcomer.

The 1990 founding name, "VORP, Inc." ("Victim-Offender Reconciliation Program") does not really work since we hope to do so much more than that. Suggestions for names or effective processes for generating names would be helpful. As the new director, I feel this is time-critical.

It looks like you do great work. Thanks for what you do. Let me see if I can help in some small way.

It sounds to me that your main focus is on those who have been harmed. If I have been victimized, here are some words that I would want to hear... safe, wholeness, hope, wellness, help, healing, etc.

No offense, but I think you're right that VORP needs to be changed - to me it sound too sterile, too government-ish. It doesn't drive me to get help.

Just off the top of my head:

    Hope for Wholeness
    Bright Hope
    Hope & Healing
    Hope Restored
    Healing Hands
    Renewed Hope

    Some simple tag lines:
Your journey of hope and healing begins here
    Wholeness takes the whole community
    Hope, Healing and Help

    Just some thoughts, good luck!

Sounds like you are running a great program, and I commend you. Agree with the above comments, you need a positive, healing name/tagline, but one that doesn't sound too cheesy.

    A few suggestions:
Restoring hope and balance to life
    Restoring peace and serenity
Healing - One Person At a Time
    Helping Hands, Healing Wounds
    Community Restoration
