Best Examples Of An Artist's Website?

Posted by SRyan ;] on 842 Points
Happy Friday, everyone...

A sculptor I know wants my advice on a website. She doesn't have one yet, and I'd like to show her a variety of examples of simple but effective sites that other artists use to showcase their work.

In my large collection of "cool website" bookmarks, I don't have much about art!

If you have any favorite examples that you can share, please post them here. Thanks!

    Shelley...

This isn't a sculptor's site, but IMHO it's a good example of an artist using the web to promote their work:

    www.janishill-art.info

(It just so happens to be the site of a friend/colleague, originally from Canada, now resident in the UK - as well as an artist, she's a practising marketer, too!)

    Good luck,
    Bob

    Hi Shelley,

This is a local gallery's website, very nicely done. They feature sculptures - ceramic, bronze, marble, mixed media.

    https://www.xanadugallery.com/

    I hope it has value.

    Have a nice weekend!

Bob and Tim, those are both excellent samples. Clean, fast loading, good imagery... thanks.

I don't know that this artist will actually need an e-commerce interface. We'll see!

Everyone, I'll take any examples for "showcase" sites. The art/content doesn't need to be limited to sculpture.

    Hey Shelley,

what a GREAT friend you are. Now you are showing signs of a true Customer Servant.

Even though I've been painting and drawing for years I'm only just beginning to give the thought of having a website any consideration. CM Thomas a world class artist hooked me up on a website that's really quite phenomenal and I'm just not saying this because I own some of his work. Besides being a feature site for hundreds of world class artist like himself CM Thomas likes Altpick because you can tap into a whole army of artist of various mediums, genres and levels of talent. Some are commercial and some are fine artist. The major benefit that this website will have for you and your dear friend is that it is a Superior (EXCELLENT) resource for viewing thousands of websites. When you visit each hosted artist many will also have links to their own individual websites. Check it out if you dare...it's really off the hook. Here you go...

This will get you to CM Thomas page on altpick

    www.altpick.com/spot/cmthomas/index.php - 29k

This will get you to the home page

    https://altpick.com/index.php

If you like it and you believe that I have given an accurate assessment of this website don't be ashame to let me know how much you loved it so. Shelley is there anything else I can do for you? Because there is nothing more important to me than that my friends succeed.

    Yeah Shelley,

I forgot to say that this artist can also submit her work to Altpick for a small fee and not only get representation but she can also get her art work picked up by commercial and fine art Connoisseurs. Don't you just love it! I think it's great.

Deremiah, what a story CM has! Another life you have touched, I see. ;]

Altpick might be a nice venue for this artist. Right now she's got one puny little page on a sculptures site (see it at www.tsos.org/bevans.htm) -- it's got limitations because it's FREE.

If you do look at it, notice the first piece of art. Can you imagine that this life-sized longhorn steer was created by a 75-year-old woman? Talk about the spirit of Texas!

Anyway... she's ready to try a bigger presence on this world wide web of ours.

Kate and Micah, I will check your examples next!

Everyone, just for grins, here are two other sites I'm bookmarking:

www.kwomack.com (one of my FAVORITE artists in Texas)
www.tallironvases.com (wacky stuff, but I love how it's presented)

    Shelley,

You weren't supposed to read the whole enchilada. I just wanted you to see the site. Well it's too late now. I just know in the future whenever I send you something not to include what I don't want you to see. I think now I know why you're so wonderfully successful. ""You examine the details"". Thanks for the web address. I like her "long Horn". Well I didn't quite mean it like that. What I mean is her "Long Horn" is wonderfully made. Nice work.

Kate, I like the way Evan uses thumbnails on his site. (His trees are amazing!) And those earrings... VERY nice way to turn trash to real treasure.

Micah, your friend has talent, but I have to know -- what kind of weapon is his character on the right carrying? And isn't it against the Laws of Underwear Physics to be able to holster it without the string bikini falling off? ;]

Deremiah, sometimes the details are so interesting or beautiful, I lose track of where I'm supposed to be!

    Hi Shelley,

My favorite New Orleans artist is James Michalopoulos because he captures the essence and movement of this unique city. So I checked out the site, excited that I could contribute it as an example for your friend, and . . .

    https://www.michalopoulos.com

YUCK. Such a wonderful and successful artist, yet such bad marketing. Maybe you could use it as an example of what NOT to do.

Here's another N'awlins artist, creator of the famous blue dog.

    https://www.georgerodrigue.com

    Ciao!

Ricky, I see what you mean about Michalopoulos! Love his art, but not his site.

Thanks for the suggestions! Ciao, bella....

Everyone, I think these examples will help me generate a lively discussion with the sculptor. I appreciate your contributions here!

Perhaps I'll have HER website for you to look at in the near future. Stay tuned...
