Golf Outing Sponsorship/advertising- Need Opinions

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points

Hi, I am a sports photographer specializing in golf outings with a unique product (Commemorative CD's) that offers much better recognition at and long after the outing. I am looking for advice and opinions on the best way to go about finding sponsors that would be interested in this type of advertising.

The idea is to find sponsors and let them choose the upcoming golf outings that best suit their advertising needs. I would then negotiate with the outing director to be sure there would be no conflicts with shooting their outing at no cost to them.

Commemorative CD...
Each golfer will receive (at banquet) a CD with a slideshow presentation including pictures of their foursome, candids around the tee and consecutive action shots (7 to 15) of each of their foursome teeing off. Your employees and clients will remember the outing for years as they can print their pictures and even save them as a screensaver.

Benefits: (both sponsor and golf outing director)
In home advertising on a unique keepsake that will be kept for a lifetime. Company Name/Logo printed on front of CD and in Slideshow of photos. One page "message from sponsor" in slideshow or 30 second commercial and a 13x19 sign at hole where photographer sets up.

Please let me know your opinions on whether this idea will work or not and any ideas on how to go about gaining these sponsors, who to target and how to get the idea in front of them.

All replies are greatly appreciated,

Dave Rice

I'd start with the courses I knew. They usually know who their regular events are. Make your service an "up-sell" with the course making money on it.

Next...open your eyes for signs in the area. Call the number on the sign. Don't like to do that? Hire someone. 10% commission or $50..whichever is higher.

Craiglist. Tons of golf outings listed there.

You're near Dublin, Cardinal Health probably does a few each year.

Thanks for all replys but I want to clarify the question that I need answered. Does my concept seem valid and if so How do I find sponsors that are looking to advertise at golf outings. Do I contact the marketing departments, how and who do I ask for, do I email, how do i get their email address? I am not looking for golf outings, I have plenty of those, just companies to pay for my services in return for advertising. Thanks

Thanks stlubahn for your response, the CD that you get is of just your foursome. You get the foursome pic, some candids and about 15 action shots each of you and your foursome teeing off, (total about 80 pics of you and your buddies) and you can print these in whatever size you would like. I do many golf outings and the response is fantastic. You hit it on the nose that I am looking for high dollar sponsors (1 per outing) but I am still looking for an aswer of how to get in front of a potential sponsor!!! That is the question that I need answered. I apologize, I may not have made this post clear enough.

    Thanks again,,

Hi! I have done a similar event. But you need to add more value to the golf outing. A tournament perhaps named as 'sponsors name ..golf tournamnet'. The winners trophy to carry sponsors logo. Certificates with sponsors name to be given to all participants. Branding of the golf carts for the day. Flags across the course with sponsors logo. Plus a lot of press release pre and post event. The whole package has to be sold to a sponsor who would ideally have an 'up market' data base. May be a bank/ financial institution would be keen to do something for its clients. Or a big retail operation might want to organise it for its mangement. The photos etc would be added value. Good Luck! SV.
