I Need Some Ideas For A Website/favorite Software

Posted by Carl Crawford on 300 Points
hi everybody,

lets start with some good news :)

today i got my marketing report back. i got a B+. i am happy with it. oh and i side note the lecturer wrote a note on my paper say

"Carl we know you have been using marketingprofs for help, just keep on qouteing like you did and you will do well in this course. ps when will they learn to use the search question link? "

and on another good note i have made it into the TOP 25. (well i was when writting this). i am very happy about this as well.

i need an idea for a website. i have to design a webpage on anything i want for my web development paper. this will be my second website that i have designed. (my first got 80% but i am still twecking it so you might not get to set it for a while)

the website has to conform to STRICT html, have CSS and javascrpit, and also be Acessable to disabled people eg Blind, deaf, paraplegic people and/or persons.

we are also allowed to have video and audio

some ideas i have had are:

i have desided to do a page dedicated to my favorite types of freewear/ public softwear

with links to things like THE GIMP which is the open source version of Photoshop. it is the same as photohop but does not have some of the highend plugings that a photoshop has, or the price BECAUSE IT IS FREE.

also IfranView (picture viewer)

mozilla Foxfire (web broswer)

jedit (java builder)

AVG (free windows anti-virus)

Adawear (anit -spywear)

spybot search and destroy(anti- spy wear)

Icon maker (free favicon maker)

Dogwaffle (like gimp but has some different effects and is a bit easyer to use)

Yahoo messenger

Spy Blaster (anit spy wear)

SpyGuard (anit spy wear)

i would also like you to tell me some of your favorite freeware and subject websites on any subject.

also do you know of any websites where i can get help with CCS and javascript (like javascript.internet.com)

do you know where i can get some free softwear to do some flash or would you do some probono work for a poor hungry student that works really hard. ( you will be fully reconized on my site for your controbutions)

any tips for good design/ and useablity?

i have used 300 points because i am saving up for the up coming exam and also i really want to get that 5000 ponit membership to marketingprofs.

have a nice day and i look foward to looking at your responces

    For HTML & CSS tutorials:

    www.webmonkey.com
    www.boogiejacks.com

For Flash stuff, there are a lot of free flash graphics on the web. You might visist www.macromedia.com for some tutorials. Plus i have a ton of flash stuff I can send you. Just shoot me an email and I will try to get it to you asap.

    Good Luck!!

    Hi Carl,

You may know about this site, but if not, it is a great freeware/shareware site:

    https://www.tucows.com/

An idea that might impress your lecturer is to include some paid advertising in your website - show a way to to create a revenue steam - by setting up an affiliate pay per click advertising program. Use some static or animated gif banner ads.

Show that your site is also search engine optimized.

    I hope that helps!

Here are a few HTML reference pages I have bookmarked:

    HTML Reference Cheatsheet: https://webmonkey.wired.com/webmonkey/reference/html_cheatsheet/

    HTML Special Character Cheatsheet: https://webmonkey.wired.com/webmonkey/reference/special_characters/

    CSS Cheatsheet:
    https://www.blooberry.com/indexdot/css/propindex/colorbg.htm

From what you have said, it sounds like wehat you choose to make the page about is not nearly as important as the form and function of the pages you create. I this is true, I would choose something which allows you to get the most background info, ancillary graphics, etc., even if it is not your favorite subject.

    Congratulations on the grade!

Why not make the website a DIY Marketing Guide for small businesses?

Give them tools that can help in, say, small retail stores, NFP Fundraisers (Scouts, RSL, Guide Dogs, etc), the type of business that just can't afford to hire a high-priced consultant like you when you qualify!

One suggestion mate - spell check! We all know Kiwis are vowel-manglers but no need to write that way! (LOL!)

    hi guys,

thanks for the sites and fantastic ideas. we are currently learning about SEO so it is part of the marks for this assignment.

Tim: i had not thought of that. i will use that idea.

Peter: thanks for the great cheat sheets

K: awesome software. i know what you mean, i have been playing with THE GIMP and DOGWAFFLE for about a week.

Chris: Interesting i might just do that, i would be quite fun and also help in my marketing to do a DIY site. Thanks for the heads up, but i was writing the question at 2 am in the morning because i had spent all day studying for my up coming consumer marketing test.
