Name For English-themed Symphony Concert

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
Hello!

I am trying to come up with a good name for an orchestra concert that is comprised of English music. Specifically the following pieces :
“Coronation March” by William Walton,
Oboe Concerto by Ralph Vaughan Williams &
Elgar’s “Enigma Variations."

I've toyed with "Songs of England" (Boring!), "An English Feast" (Oh, like they're known for their cuisine!), and "Made in England" (A rip-off of the Elton John Album / Song title.)

Any thoughts? Can't be too ha-ha funny since it's a highbrow audience, but I also don't want it to be "English Classics" either.

Thanks!

And Now For Something Completely .... British

twist on that famous intro of the medium-brow troupe from Monty Python .. Britain's best know export for decades and since you left out Benjamin Britten it might beg the (Britten) question and create some extra feedback/conversation..

Love the "Tea and Trumpets" and wish that were our featured instrument instead of an oboe!

I think the Monty Python reference will be completely lost on most of this audience, unfortunately (although I think it's funny!)

I am now trying to think on the "Enigma" of the Variations.... English History and Mystery? Musical Mystery Tour (too ha-ha similar to Monty Python, but I like it too!)

Also have come up with the following in the meantime:

    The British Are Coming!
    Musical Crown Jewels

Still not going "THAT'S IT!" on any of them yet, unfortunately. That's why I need you.... ;)

The "Land of Hope and Glory' Presents or

Land Of Oboe and Glory (with apologies to Mr Elgar).

I'll leave out my Dame Edna suggestion entirely then if M Python is too base ;))

How about "A Concert Fit for The Queen Mum" Everything else I am coming up with ties in with food or drink - Bangers and Mash, Black and Tans, Shepherd's Pie, etc. Nothing musical about any of that. Can't think how Sherlock Holmes, "Are you being Served," "Fawlty Towers," "The Black Adder" etc. Bobbies, Westminster, #10 Downing Street, Trafalger, etc. etc. etc. can be used. Will keep thinking!

David may have hit on an interesting idea - Bold the William(s) and list them Walton - Elgar and Williams so you have a first - middle and last names highlighted.

    Good Luck!

Great suggestion David, I stand corrected...but Good thing I left it out as I said.

Working Man's Ballet has already been used for football so I didn't got that route either but your 'Wild Bills' is excellent.

...as a Colonial I was relying on the Dame Edna Low Brow Ref; (A woman holding a nonhereditary title conferred by a sovereign [Australian?] in recognition of personal merit or service to the country)... in an attempt to suggest a commoner rubbing shoulders or at least dropping names of those To The Manor Born [aka HighBrow wannabees] similar to The Last Night of the Proms from the BBC which celebrates British tradition with patriotic Music of the United Kingdom.

Perhaps Mrs Bucket might be a better spokesperson or image for a tongue in cheek ref....

It could have turned into a Lavender Cow naming exercise...my apologizes to Seth G. and Barry the comedian.

    It has been memorable.
