Which Email Marketing Service Is Best?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
My company would like to start using an email marketing service. So far we have used mostly internal tools. Has anyone done an extensive evaluation and could you make some recommendations? Here are some initial features we are looking at:

Import Mailing List
CRM Integration
Removes Unsubscribed Contacts
Groups Email Contacts
Detects Duplicate Email Accounts
The Option to Add Demographic Fields
Keeps us from all black lists (as much as possible)
Can Add Images
Can Add Hyper-links
Can Create/Convert into a Plain Text Message
Can do HTML Messages
Can create and use templates
Can Create Timed Emails (create it one day and have it sent out on a different day automatically)
Auto responder capabilities (Can run like a 7-day ecourse through it)
It would be nice to have survey capabilities (not required)
SPAM Test
Test Email
CTR Tracking
Delivered/Undelivered Tracking
Bounce Rate Tracking and Reporting
Opened Email Tracking and Reporting
Forwarded Email Tracking and Reporting
Unsubscribe rate
Compare Message Success Reports
Integrate with Google Analytics
Decent Support and Training
Ability to create newsletters
It would be nice if we could purchase lists from them, or if they new where we could get lists we could use
list segmentation
css email fixer
ability to add videos to emails
email archives

I have used Emma Email Marketing in the past and had a fantastic experience. The team there is great and has always been extremely helpful with questions and advice.

Given your list of requirements, I would suggest identifying the most important features to you and your team and identify vendors from that list.

There is also Lyris HQ which is comprehensive too. Happy Hunting!

I've had excellent experiences with Emma too. Why not call them, send them your list of requirements, and let them go through the checklist for you? www.myEmma.com

I've had good luck with MailChimp, although their hierarchy and nomenclature confuse me at times.

I like that they emphasize proper opt-in etiquette, and continually remind you that simply adding names to your database is not the Jedi way; people need to agree to receive your messages, and you need to remind them why they're receiving them. MailChimp is careful to help you avoid subject lines that may land your messages on a blacklist.

If you're being so diligent, why do you want to purchase lists? Not many serious e-mail marketers recommend that, do they?

MailChimp does much of what's on your wishlist. Good luck with CRM integration, though.

I'm happy with myEmma.com, but I don't think they provide lists for sale or rental. And I've never tried embedding video in an email campaign, so I'm not sure they have that capability. Still... worth a look!

Most of the services I've tried have the same functionality. Here's a good comparison to start your assessment:

    Hope it's helpful.

I evaluated all of the well known out sourced email services, we decided to bring it in-house and install software on our servers. (we had a large list to start with and we didn't want to re-opt in all the people that have already opted in. This was a requirement for all the outsourced email services.)

We went with Email Marketer developed by Interspire, who has created a suite of e commerce tools. Here's the link to the Email Marketer software:
